Location & Access We’re nestled about 400 feet up the side of Buck Mountain, just 1.5 miles from Eastsound. The studio is in the woods with a steep, gravel road leading up — please use low gear when driving. Parking is available in our shared “grotto” area. Look for the driftwood sign at the foot of the stairs to your private entrance. Though close to town, we recommend driving rather than walking due to the steep incline. Nearby Attractions On your way to Eastsound, you’ll pass Crescent Beach, one of the island’s prettiest spots. In town, you’ll find: Restaurants, shops, and a brewery Library, theater, and spa Grocery stores and a wonderful bookstore with coffee Tennis and Pickleball courts. For outdoor adventures, Moran State Park, Obstruction Pass Park and Turtleback Mountain Preserve offer some of the best hiking on the island. Want to explore by bike? Wildlife Cycles in Eastsound (run by Dan/Barry) offers affordable rentals — reservations encouraged. Getting Here Eastsound is about 8 miles from the ferry dock. If you’re traveling without a car, taxis are available — check the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce website for current options. Guest access We have a driftwood sign that are at the foot of the stairs to the private entrance. You will be parking in our spot--it's like a grotto. Please do park to one side or the other as we park there as well. We have two seating areas on the deck for you! There are two sets of chairs. One by the entrance to the apartment, the other in front of the bedroom window. Feel free to move them around to your liking. (Seasonal) Other things to note Although we are only 1.5 miles from town, it would be easier to drive than walk as our road to the house is a steep, gravel road. Please be mindful of the speed limit on our road-- 15mph and going down, there is a spot where it is 10mph--since you need to yield to other traffic. You will see Directional Bird Signs to our place on Longwood Lane. As you go into town you will pass Crescent Beach (one of the nicest on the island). In Eastsound you will find tennis courts, the library with free internet, theater, restaurants, good book store with coffee, a brewery, groceries, shops, school, spa and medical center. The hiking in Moran State Park and Turtleback Mountain Preserve is not to be missed. Should you want to rent bikes…we have a bike shop in Eastsound, Wildlife Cycles--and Dan can set you up—rentals are very reasonable and reservations are encouraged. Eastsound is approximately 8 miles from the ferry dock. If you don't bring a car, then you would need to arrange for a taxi to our property. There are two taxi services on Orcas. Check out the Orcas Island Chamber site.
