The builder of this home is one of the top luxury log home builders in Minnesota. He built this custom designed home for his family using timbers that he collected over decades making this home art as well as shelter. If you have more than 8 adults or more than 13 people with kids you need to rent the guest house also. The Airbnb ID for the Guest house/loft is 35501909 if you're booking for more than 8 adults. The maximum number of 16 guests advertised is meant for those who would be renting both the main house and the guest house. The home is not appropriate for more than eight adults. If you have more than 8 adults, you must also rent the guest house. While the house could sleep up to 13 people ie. 3-4 families of 3-4 people, with maximum is 6-8 total adults. The vehicle limit of the home is 4. If you rent the guest house you could have up to 4 additional vehicles, no more than 8 total. This home sleeps up to 11 in beds, plus 2 additional people with the futon for 13 and up to 3 more with air mattresses. Please notify us at least 1 week prior to arrival if an air mattress is needed. This is a large estate, there are two separate BBQ areas and fire pit areas, however, the dock area is shared between the house and the guest house. I've stayed in the house and the guest house and the house with other people staying in one or the other and I didn't even know they were there. If both the house and the guest house loft are rented there's a lock off door on one wing of the home at the end of a large hallway next to a sleeping loft that can be unlocked to connect the guest house loft and the main house. Pets are not allowed without written approval and must be provided at least 48 hours prior to arrival. If written approval is not obtained and you come with a pet you are subject to a $1000 fine and you will be made to leave with no refund. Approval is at the sole discretion of the owner and pet fees apply. Wood can be pre-ordered for $6/bundle if purchased at least 3 days in advance or purchased on site for $8/bundle. The Heartland Trail is about 2 miles from the house. The Heartland State Trail was one of the first rail-to-trail projects in the country. It is a 49 mile multiple-use trail between Park Rapids and Cass Lake. The Heartland State Trail also connects with the Paul Bunyan State Trail system and other regional trail systems. To connect from the Heartland Trail entrance closest to the house to the Paul Bunyan trail its about 23 miles. 3) Can you swim in the River? The River is clean and clear. However, the area around the dock is a bit Marshy. When my kids and I want to swim at this home we take out the kayaks, there's a sandy beach park a short kayak ride away and there are a number of nice sandy areas on the lake for swimming. Please make sure to wear life jackets and that anyone that cannot swim is properly monitored. Swim at your own risk. 4) Parking? We allow up to 2 vehicles at the guest house and up to 3 vehicles at the main house. The home has a large circular driveway, please make sure not to block the driveway. Detroit mountain is about 20 miles west of park rapids/ the house and they have tubing snowboarding and skiing. Golf courses also let people sled on them during the winter. There is also a big sledding hill in wolf lake. About 15 miles from town/the house. No parties or events without express written permission! Home has been used for events of up to 100 people. Daytime guests are $20/person for events. ONLY WITH EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION. Must let owners know if you are planning to have an event. Guests may bring a maximum of 4 cars, if you will have more than 4 cars parked that the home you must get permission, if you do not it will be considered a party and you will be subject to fines. Cancellation policy and procedures Our goal is to keep our prices as competitive as possible, in order to keep them competitive it's important that we avoid the losses that come from cancellations. Owners of these properties depend on the income and last-minute cancellations result in lost revenue through vacancy and lower prices. For those that don't like the risk that comes with cancellation policies, we strongly recommend you look into travel insurance. We can recommend one for you. If you didn't purchase the travel insurance offered by the booking channel, or the one we recommend, you will likely not get any refund. To ask for an exception to our policy you must first cancel through the booking channel. Exceptions are up to individual owners and are very rare. Your best chance is to ask for a credit to be used for a booking for the same property. The credit can to be used within the window you cancelled. Ie. If you cancel 3 days before your stay and the owners payout is $4500, you didn't purchase travel insurance you may ask for a credit to be used to reserve the same property no more than 3 days before the drag you want to use the credit for. Example request. "I had to cancel because my kids are sick. I didn't purchase the recommended travel insurance. My stay is 3 days away. I'm requesting a credit for the owner payout amount to be used to reserve the same property 3 days before our stay. I.e, we want to stay August 23rd so I will make a request on August 20th if the unit is still available. Thanks." We will share this with the owner and encourage them to allow us to agree.
