Access to upstairs is via a barn-style door in the kitchen and there is also a door leading out onto the small and very private courtyard garden at the back of the house where you can enjoy an al-fresco meal or peaceful drink. Much of Appledore is a conservation area and there are plenty of quaint village streets which host a wide range of cafés, public houses, and boutique shops - the perfect place to simply wander and take in the surroundings. The historic port town of Bideford is just two miles away and offers a taste of traditional North Devon life with its weekly pannier market and of course has all the usual town facilities such as a large supermarket and high street. The sandy beach of Westward Ho! with its great views out towards Lundy Island which can be visited on a day trip is popular with surfers, windsurfers, and beach lovers alike and is just over two miles away. The beautiful, child friendly, sandy beach at Instow is on the other side of the estuary and accesible by ferry or road. There are plenty of local attractions and amenities nearby including Royal North Devon Golf Course, horse riding stables, an indoor swimming pool, fishing, sailing and water-skiing facilities.
