Please note the opening hours: Mon-Fri from 3:00 pm, Sat 11:30 am-10:00 pm, Sun 11:30 am-4:00 pm.*** The building owes its name to the small island of Lamu, which is located just a few hundred meters off the mainland of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. Today, the Lamu House is an overnight residence where regional history, African interior design and modern comfort come together in a charming way. In the past, the furnishings of the house consisted largely of furniture made directly on the island or on the Kenyan mainland. What remains is a handmade cabinet as well as smaller furnishing elements such as wardrobes, mirrors and curtain rods. In addition, the impressively designed and hand-carved entrance door still points to the African influences today. Doors of this type are typical of architecture in the Indian Ocean area. Long before its use as a vacation home, the building served as a community bakery in Auerstedt. The last community baker had to give up his job in 1965 due to illness. The annual bakery festival commemorates the craft tradition. If you arrive after 10 pm and if you arrive on Sunday after 4 pm, we ask you to contact us in advance by phone. We will provide you with a key box code that you can use to access your room key on site.
