The pool heat is on-demand, meaning we do not heat it when it's not in use or when no guests are staying. It heats up about 3 degrees per hour and it can get down into the 60's during the winter so if you want it heated upon your arrival please keep that in mind and notify us. Typically the pool needs to be heated from October through May. Pool and spa heat is minimal from June to September and you can heat the pool up to 83 degrees for up to 12 hours per day and the spa as high as you like for up to 12 hours per day from June to through the end of September at no additional charge. October Through April the charge to heat the pool is $100/day if paid up front, $150/day if not paid up front. If you pay to heat the pool you can also heat the spa. Spa heat only is $40//day if pool heating is paid upfront for every day of the stay or $65/day if not. Most PGA West Pools cap their heat at 80 degrees. We cap our pool heat at 83 degrees. The minimum age for a responsible renter is 30. Rentspree application required for reservations of 28 nights or more and be approved based on the report by the owner. Weekly housekeeping service is not provided. However, can be added at the guests expense upon request. Planning Your Summer Stay in the California Desert We're glad you're considering a summer stay with us in the Coachella Valley (La Quinta, Palm Springs, and the surrounding desert). Summer here is beautiful, but it is also genuinely extreme, and a little preparation goes a long way. Please take a moment to read what to expect so your stay is a comfortable and happy one. The Heat From roughly June through September, daytime highs in the desert routinely reach 105F to 120F, and sometimes higher. Nights stay warm as well, often in the 80s and low 90s. This is normal desert summer weather. We recommend planning outdoor activities for the early morning or evening, staying well hydrated, using sun protection, and enjoying the air-conditioned indoors during the hottest part of the day. Please take extra care with young children, older adults, and pets in the heat. Air Conditioning and Cooling Our homes are equipped with air conditioning that we service regularly. In extreme heat, these systems run almost continuously and still have limits. During the peak afternoon hours, a home may only cool to roughly 20 to 25 degrees below the outdoor temperature, so on a 115-degree day the interior may sit in the mid-80s at the hottest point before cooling further in the evening. A home that has been closed up and unoccupied will also take several hours to reach a comfortable temperature after arrival. You can help the system keep up: * Keep exterior doors and windows closed as much as possible, and try not to leave sliding doors open for long periods. * Keep blinds and shades drawn during the day. * Set the thermostat to a steady, reasonable temperature. We suggest between 74F and 78F. Setting it extremely low does not cool the home any faster and can actually cause the unit to freeze up and stop cooling. Even well-maintained systems can occasionally struggle or need service during a heat wave. If anything is not working as it should, please contact us right away and we will respond as quickly as we can. The Pool Our pools are not chilled. None of our properties have pool chilling equipment. In summer, pool water can become very warm, at times reaching the 90s, which feels more like a warm bath than a cool dip. This is normal for an unshaded desert pool in the summer months. The desert heat and strong sun also cause algae to grow quickly, which means a pool can develop a green tint in a short time even with regular care. To stay ahead of this, we schedule frequent professional pool service. Seeing our pool technicians often, or noticing an occasional green tint or cloudiness between cleanings, is a normal part of desert pool maintenance and does not mean the pool is unsafe or neglected. If you ever have a concern about the pool, just let us know and we will address it. Our Commitment We take pride in maintaining our homes to a high standard, and we respond promptly whenever an issue comes up. The conditions above come with the territory of a desert summer and are true of any property in the area, not only ours. We share this simply so that you arrive with the right expectations and can focus on enjoying your time here. Please do not hesitate to reach out during your stay. We are always glad to help.
