At the Pillar House, friends and family have been gathering together since the 1830s. The home, purchased by the Seiberling's around 1857, was the birthplace of Frank Seiberling and his brother Charlie, who later founded Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and its unique architecture makes it one of the most photographed homes in Norton. Lovingly restored, the home reflects the authentic farmhouse charm of its time combined with the modern amenities we all appreciate today. Whether it’s sipping a cold drink on the side porch, relaxing in the pool or hot tub, or exploring the 5 acres, you will find space to relax and recharge. 3 night minimum stay. 5 night minimum during the summer months. Also the Party Barn is available for an additional rental fee, but for safety/liability will be locked during your stay unless use is requested. The party barn has electric, but no running water or bathrooms in the barn. You must walk to the main home for these amenities. Key outdoor features to enjoy include: new heated saltwater pool installed 2021, brand-new hot tub in 2022, and firepit. There are 5 acres to explore with open spaces large enough for a family game of kickball, croquet, hide and seek and more. In addition, the generously sized, heated, 3-car garage adjacent to the pool is a perfect enclosed space for everyone to gather. Tables and chairs are provided for your convenience. It’s also conveniently located to Akron, Medina, Cleveland and Canton. If you are attending a wedding or special event at Birdseye Barn at Western Star, we are right next door. Inside, there are 7 bedrooms- one is a multi-room suite that has two doors so we count that as two separate bedrooms, there is also an 8th sleeping space in the completely remodeled attic. There are also 4 baths. There is a separate bedroom/suite that includes a private sitting room attached to the garage building. Basement bathroom – full bath; small standup shower direct access to outdoors; most convenient if using the garage bedroom (NOTE: low headspace- some vents are at 6 foot level with max height of 6 foot 6 inches) Bedroom Notes: (see diagrams in pictures for whole house layout and details of bedrooms) This historic farmhouse is unique, and as well, some of the bedroom configurations are unique, or have limitations based on their location. When you are planning sleeping arrangements for your group, PLEASE keep these limitations in mind. 1) The attic bedroom/play space has VERY narrow, steep stairs. It is the nature of an old home. While this can be a great space for kids to gather and play games and chill, caution is required for the stairs as well as guarding your head. This is NOT the room you want to assign to anyone who has difficulties with stairs or is quite tall. Center of attic is 6 foot 6 inches. 2) 3 of the bedrooms offer opportunities to be “suites” 1) The garage bedroom is a generously sized room/suite and offers privacy that some may highly value and appreciate. There is baseboard heating and a window AC that keeps it cool in the summer. Also directly attached is a sitting room with a couch. However, there is NOT a bathroom attached to that space; you need to come into the main house to use the bathroom. Two bathrooms are quite convenient when the weather is pleasant – the basement bathroom or the mudroom bathroom are easily accessible. Please keep this limitation in mind as you assign bedrooms. 2) The master bedroom includes a king bed, a trundle, a twin day bed, and there is a room adjacent that includes a queen bed with its own door. You MUST walk through the master bedroom to get to the queen bed. It’s great if you are a family and want to spread out a little bit. This is the only bedroom with a television. 3)The 2nd floor bedroom that includes a king/trundle combo also shares a door that leads up to the attic. This is also a nice opportunity for a family suite. If used as separate spaces, it affords privacy as long as one knocks before entering. Kitchen/Dining We maintain a well-stocked kitchen with a traditional coffee pot/Keurig combo, toaster, tea pot, crockpot (8qt), stockpot, cookie sheet, leftover containers, and kitchen knives. There is an oven with a stove top, microwave, and we have a combination of nonstick and stainless-steel pots and pans. To keep food and beverages cold- there is a refrigerator in the garage, as well as a refrigerator in the kitchen with an ice maker. Dining Room and Kitchen Area: • In the dining room there is a large main table for ten. • Against the walls are 2 pub height narrow tables that each have four seats for eight • Kitchen has a counter island seating for four • There is also a popup card table in closet of kitchen/mudroom with seating for 4 • Overall seating for 26 Technology and Media • Wifi and Internet access: Enough for a zoom call, multiple streaming devices and watching a movie on a smart TV • 4 Televisions- one has cable, one is smart, and two have amazon firesticks 1) Family room directly off the kitchen has cable TV- there are two remotes one for the cable box (large one) and one for the TV- controlling inputs to allow for streaming services) 2) Second gathering room on 1st floor- Amazon Firestick to access your own login (Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc.); 3) Master bedroom has ROKU Smart TV- to access your own login (Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc.); 4) Attic TV- Amazon Firestick to access your own login (Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc.); Fireplaces/Outdoor Firepits ALL indoor fireplaces are for decorative purposes only. We would be remiss if we didn’t share opportunities for history buffs to learn more about the famous previous occupants of this special home. • Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens (FA Seiberling’s home) Beautiful estate and gardens about 30 min drive; our family enjoys visiting the grounds at least once a year • F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm (about 25 min away). This nature realm has been a favorite for my own children; and I personally love the herb gardens to the left. My children love the “fairy garden area" where you may find small chairs, tic-tac-toe and lots of shade. Guest access We love our family! The Pillar House has a rich history in Norton, Ohio both for its architecture and as the famous birthplace of the Seiberling brothers who founded the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
