Stone 1. Room on Beautiful Campground.
Conveniently located outside Athens, Texas, on a beautiful, private, non-profit church camp surrounded by towering pine trees and serene private lakes. Our hotel-style private rooms offer an excellent opportunity to get away from it all! Please note there is not a microwave, only a mini fridge and small coffee brewer. Our private rooms are set-up intentionally to give guests an opportunity for rest and respite. A simple color palette, luxurious bedding and finishes, and peaceful, natural surroundings guarantee you'll be able to experience the tranquility of the country without straying far from city amenities. There is no TV in our private rooms and we encourage guests to take the chance to disconnect. We do offer wifi if you decide you need it, but we recommend enjoying the sights and sounds of nature instead! Our private campground covers a total of 534 mostly undisturbed acres, so you can expect to see some local wildlife. We routinely see deer, armadillo, opossum, raccoon, and hawk. Be sure to look up on a clear night and you'll get a great view of the stars! There is a large patio shared by all private rooms with a dining table, rocking chairs, and fire ring. You'll have access to outdoor recreation options within our campgrounds, including sand volleyball courts, frisbee golf, and hiking trails. We have a main office situated at the front of the campground where full-time staff keep varying weekday office hours. You'll be provided with contact information for on-call staff for any urgent issues that may arise. Dining We are located just outside of Athens, which is a small town, but still has some great dining options. There are a handful of chain restaurants, and you can find some favorite local recommendations in our Athens Guidebook. Things to Do You may not want to leave the campgrounds, but if you decide to, you'll find plenty of things nearby to stay entertained, including: 1) Henderson County Fairgrounds 2) Lake Athens 3) Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center 4) East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society 5) First Monday Trade Days in Canton 6) Tyler/Dallas: Both of these towns are easy day-trips away and offer lots of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. 7) Concerts at the Texan 8) Local breweries and wineries (see our Guidebook for specifics!) ...and be sure to check out seasonal events on the historic square, like Old Fiddler's Reunion and Uncle Fletch's Hamburger Festival! Once you leave the campground you will need a vehicle to get around. Athens grocery stores, gas stations, dining, etc..are rarely more than a 10 minute drive away. Canton is roughly 30 minutes away, Tyler is a 40 minute drive, and Dallas is an hour and a half. We are primarily a Christian Church Camp and might have groups while you are here. A list of any groups/events occurring during your stay will be provided with check in information. Other reservations will not impact your reserved space. Availability of shared recreation spaces might be limited. All guests and groups are asked to be mindful and courteous of shared spaces and social distancing.
