If you need some space to breathe, our country cottage is calling you. It is set on 10 acres nestled in the rolling hills of Willamette Valley farmland. We are rural, but not so rural that it isn’t a quick drive of 10-15 minutes to various neighboring cities and quaint small towns. Our 600 sq. ft. cottage is furnished and stocked in a way to provide soothing rest for your soul. Please read this entire section and all other listing information before booking to familiarize yourself with this property’s unique set-up. Our cottage is a private 1 bedroom/1.5 bath studio with two beds, for a maximum of 2 people. We are unable to accommodate children. It is a short term rental only. There is a queen bed in the bedroom that is separated from the living space by a heavy curtain to pull for privacy (as opposed to a closing door, hence our description that the cottage is studio-ish). A double/full bed tucked behind the living room seating area. Please note that the living room nook/double bed will have some very dim lighting that may filter through the blinds as they are white light filtering blinds. The full kitchen is stocked with basic kitchen gear for cooking in, or a short drive into one of the towns or cities can provide a bite to eat. A ROKU TV is provided for you to log into your own subscription accounts on if you would like. There is a full sized washer and dryer (laundering supplies provided) in the cottage should you require it during your visit. The cottage has one full bath with shower, and one half bath in the laundry room. Our ductless heating/air conditioning unit will keep you comfortable no matter the weather. During the holiday season we do decorate lightly for Christmas. Guests should know that the cottage is situated near two other dwellings on the property. You will see the two dwellings out your windows on two sides of the cottage, and the cottage shares yard space with the houses. Please view all of our exterior photos and you will be able to see the other dwellings near the cottage. You may see our family members out and about while we maintain the property or are coming and going since we live here also, but rest assured your privacy will be respected. Our property is on a hill, and while the cottage is set back from the road, the road is within view of the cottage so you may see or hear vehicles (and neighboring farm equipment at work). You will have access to an attached deck intended only for cottage guests during your stay. You may also use the fire pit that is in the shared yard space (firewood provided). We are a complete NO smoking property (applies to in the cottage, outside of the cottage, and on the entire property). If you are a smoker this is probably not the best fit for you. Guests may not bring animals onto our property or into the cottage. This creates problems with our own resident animals. Guests should note our resident cat is extremely friendly and will wait on the cottage deck for human interaction (yours!). She is outdoor only, but absolutely wants to be fawned over by all humans. She may try to jump on your lap should she find you sitting on the deck. We also have two resident farm dogs that you will encounter when driving on the property, and being outside on the grounds. They will bark upon the arrival of a vehicle, and may come to greet you, but are friendly. If you are allergic to animals or are not fond of them, this is most likely not the property for you. We ask our visitors to drive slow to keep our resident animals safe. Feel free to introduce yourself to our "working farmhands"...of alpaca, goats and sheep mowing the grasses in our fields, keeping in mind we ask you to stay on the non-farm animal side of the fences. Logistics/Distances: If you seek adventures away from the cottage, we are 20 - 30 minutes away from various trails at Silver Falls State Park. The Oregon coast is under 2 hours drive away. There are multiple options for visiting vineyards and wineries (as close as 3 miles away), as well as craft breweries. We are also a convenient choice for the business traveler as well, as we are located 6 miles east from I-5. If you are here to visit your student, Corban University is 8 miles away from us, Willamette University is under 8 miles, and Chemeketa Community College is 10 miles. The small towns of Silverton, Stayton or Sublimity are about 15 minutes drive. Most parts of the city of Salem can be driven to in 10-20 minutes. The Portland International Airport is about 1.5 hours away, barring any traffic crashes or rush hour problems. Eugene’s Airport is about 1 hour drive south. We are hands off hosts, but our family does live on the property in the two houses situated near the cottage. We do make an effort to respect your privacy and space, however if our paths cross we will certainly greet you! Our resident outdoor cat and two farm dogs will most certainly greet you if they see you! Our property is situated in the rural pastoral area outside of the cities of Salem, Silverton and Stayton/Sublimity. Most of the land surrounding us is used for farming of grass seed, grapes, wildflower seed, hay and hazelnuts. There are two other dwellings on the property near the cottage. There is no public transportation here, so a vehicle will be needed. Parking is available for up to 2 vehicles next to the cottage. We are responsible and respectful humans and feel you should be the same while here. Therefore we do not require a security deposit. Upon check out we do ask guests to leave the space tidy and to complete a very short to-do list. These are basic things like leaving the sink free of dirty dishes and making a pile of used towels on the floor by the washer. This list just helps us get a jump start so we can focus on the more in-depth cleaning of the cottage that will be taken care of after you check-out. Additionally, our cottage is kept animal-free so people with allergies can stay with us. We are sorry but we are unable to accommodate pets/animals of any kind. With our own resident animals on site, who can be territorial with other animals, it is not a realistic allowance we can make. Thank you for understanding that we cannot risk a potential safety issue by allowing unfamiliar animals at our cottage. We absolutely expect guests to read our house rules and abide by them. By reserving this listing you have indicated exactly this. We are pretty laid back hosts, but fully expect our house rules to be followed. Failure to do so at any time may result in our choice to cancel the reservation, without refund, resulting in your stay ending immediately. We would love to not have to ever complete these steps...so please, know the rules before you book (they are simple and are in place for specific reasons)!
