East Texas Historical School House/ "Aunt Ruth's place."

One of a kind! Original Red brick School house turn of the century, remodeled and restored in 2012. This precious 2 bedroom house has a full kitchen, living room with fireplace, dining area, laundry room as well as master bedroom with pot belly stove and bunk room for kids or extra guests. The school house sleeps 6 comfortably. Build back in 1919, the old school was used for many years storing hay, in the mid 70's one of it's original teachers bought it with her husband as their retirement home and lived there till 2011 when she went to live with family and passed in 2020. It changed hands amongst family in 2012 and the current owner updated the school with new windows, bathrooms, kitchen, roof, put in new sheet rock, plumbing and electrical. We still call the school house, "Aunt Ruth's place." Ruth adored her school house and the deer that grazed on her lawn. The current owners have taken care to replant trees that were lost in 2011 and 2022 drought, as well as those lost in the February Freeze of 2021. A pool and outdoor seating and dining were added in 2020, along with 2 tiny homes, granite gravel paths, gardens and koi pond. There are many places to retreat to with a good book and a glass of wine. The house sits on a hill and has many great views from the property south towards Palestine, TX. Many family members still live in the area and fondly remember Aunt Ruth's pies and cakes. Her husband Earl could cure any ailment, so the school house was known in the area as place of praying, learning and healing. The house is still used for the owner's family gatherings and has become a favorite spot to gather for wellness retreats in pilates and yoga. The school house along with it's 2 tiny cottages can host large family gatherings and/or small intimate weddings.
