Good food, a garden, & a comfy bed!
Description
Our little home near downtown Abilene has been a place of hospitality and gathering for many. We invite you to make our home your own — it’s a peaceful place to spend an evening! The space We are excited to have you stay in our home! We live just north of downtown Abilene; a ten to fifteen-minute walk or a short drive will get you to several good restaurants, a coffee shop, and some art exhibits and museums. As is the case in many cities across the country, the center of Abilene is surrounded by a ring of lower-income neighborhoods, and this is where we have chosen to make our home for the past six years. Our neighborhood is not much to look at, but it is full of goodness, individuals and families that we consider friends and even family. If you are looking for high-society, our place is not for you. But if you appreciate seeing people sitting on their front porch in the evening, enjoying the breeze, lively conversation, and a game of dominoes, then you would probably like where we live! Like our neighborhood, our home is warm and welcoming, though well-worn. Our house was built in the early 1920s, and the wonderful little old man that we purchased it from had lived there for over fifty years. As he grew older, he became more and more unable to keep up with maintenance, and so we have been slowly renovating the space as we have time and attention available to us. The house has two bedrooms (each with a window A/C unit) and one bathroom. The master bedroom currently includes a queen sized bed and a rocking chair, and the second bedroom (our children’s) has a twin bed and a crib, plus there's also a pull-out couch bed in the adjoining living room. Though we wouldn't describe it as luxurious (given the updates we're still wanting to do or even at times in the midst of), our home is a functional and enjoyable place to stay, including if you have kids, as toys and books are readily accessible. We have no TV, a plus if you're looking for a simple, restful place to unplug. Instead you'll find the chance to relax, unwind, and play with a very friendly dog, as well as peruse our ever-growing garden. (NOTE: Images need updating after the arrival of our second child but still reflect the general feel of our home. See description above for bed types/location.) Guest access Make yourself at home in the house, on the porch, and in the yards. Other things to note Our home reflects the fact that we have two children. There are plenty of children's toys around, and there's a crib and rocking chair. If you're traveling with kids, you're welcome to use these things.
