Description

Vacation on a Florida Barrier Fishing Island. Fish, Swim, Snorkel, Boat, Kayak, Bike, Dolphin Watch and Island Hop. It’s “Old Florida” at its best with no brand name stores but simply only mom and pops stores with streets lined with mangrove and palm trees. The house, Gone Fishing, is located on 1.2 acres of land that spills into the natural wildlife preserve. It comes with a pool, outdoor shower, fishing rods and 6 bicycles. Boating and bike riding available. “Island Time" begins here. The space Location: The house is located on Pine Island Florida; 6.1 miles from Matlacha. The Pool The swimming pool is directly off the large wooden deck in the back. Where the deck ends, old-world cobble stones begins to surround the majestic pool. The pool is within nature, that is, it is a salt water pool and not screened in so the closed in feeling a screened pool gives is not there and the openness to the environment is very apparent. It is 30 feet long 14 feet wide with a range from 3 ½ feet to 6 feet deep. It is also a waterscape with a Baja shelf for tanning and relaxation that is 18 inches underwater. The Baja shelf has a water spout that keeps water movement and is welcoming to the eye. Furthermore the pool features an inlet with a Panama Jack daybed so neatly placed that when you sit or sleep there you think you are floating in the pool water. It is a heated pool during the winter months. The pool area also has an outdoor solar heated shower! The pool is open 24/7 and only closed during thunderstorms. The Space Once you go over the bridge, you realize that you have entered a place in Florida that some people think have disappeared. Pine Island is a “state of mind, a place where time forgot.” There are no condos, chain stores, fast foods, (but we are getting our first “7 Eleven” – and we are going to celebrate!) no malls and no crowds. It is quiet, private and causal: it is “old Florida.” Just a fishing island filled with fishing peers, mangroves, palm trees, boats, kayaks, and homes on about one acre lots owned by local fishermen and vacationers. So, come to Gone Fishing and have your breakfast and coffee or tea on the large deck in the back next to the pool. Afterwards go for an energizing morning swim in the pool. Then relax on the swing chairs, OR better yet in the pool’s Baja tanning shelf with the bubblier. Finish off your morning in a warm morning breeze with a nap in the Panama Jack Day bed on the pool’s inlet or on the reclining chaise chairs next to the swimming pool. One morning skip the nap and explore the wild life preserve….don’t go too far so that you can remember your way back. Drop pebbles on your walk and bring your cell phone. Bring plenty of water. But on the rest of your stay, engulf yourself in our list of activities: visiting museums and art galleries, island hopping by boat, biking, hiking through wildlife preserves, swimming on a disserted island that has crystal soft sand, shell collecting, fishing and then taking your fresh catch to the local restaurant for them to cook, and many more fun activities. Guest access The home was originally a home on stilts because it is on an Island. The entire bottom portion of the house was enclosed by the previous owner to create a second home. There are two separate entrances into the two homes with different locks and keys. Guest will rent out the entire lower house - 3 bedrooms with the third bedroom serving as an office/bedroom. It also has one full kitchen with updated appliances, dining room that seats 8 and a living room area....open concept. Guest will have access to this entire house which is the new home that was enclosed and access to the deck and of course the yard. Free access to WiFi and Amazon stick. Owners live in the upper portion of the house. Other things to note What to do? What to do? Visit great mom and pops restaurants and stores in the area. Go on fishing trips and boat trips or visit Pine Island and Matlacha pubs. Go downtown Ft. Myers for more fine dining of steaks, burgers or seafood and remember to visit the jazz and blues or easy listening clubs in the area. Or simply rent a kayak and explore on your own. For night life go where all the locals hang out. "Gone Fishing" is the place to be. A detailed manual of “What to Do While I staying at Gone Fishing” will be provided. It includes detailed list of (1) Nature Parks and Preserves; (2) Farmers' Markets; (3) Seafood Markets (4) Local bars and restaurants (5) Specialty stores for sweets, ice cream, pizza and pastry; (6) Marinas with lunch and dinner menus with a full bar; (7) Beaches; (8) All day excursions and excitement; (9) Museums, Art Galleries and Novelties; (10) Kayaking, chartered boat tours and fishing tours; (10) Fishing off the pier locations; (11) Locations for launching your personal watercraft- up to 30 ft.; (12) Night Life; and (13) Where to be lazy other than at Gone Fishing. The home comes with a pool, outdoor shower, bicycles and fishing rods! So bike around the entire island, visit museums, eat at locally owned restaurants, fish, swim, beaching, go boating or kayaking in tree lined waters, or go dolphin watching and shelling. Or just island hop. When you get here be sure to read “Things to do while staying at Gone Fishing.”
