Description

Welcome to our secluded, off-grid retreat in Boxley Valley — a peaceful bluffline cabin overlooking Cave Mountain with sweeping views, abundant birdlife, and room to truly unwind. Powered by solar energy and rainwater, this nature-immersed stay is perfect for guests seeking quiet, beauty, and a reset from everyday life. The space Perched Above the Valley — An Off-Grid Bluffline Retreat Tucked along a scenic bluff on 46 private acres, our two-story cabin was designed for guests who want quiet mornings, expansive views, and nights filled with stars. Whether you’re sipping coffee on the deck at sunrise, watching hawks glide through the valley, or listening to the wind move through the trees, this is a place to truly slow down. The cabin sits close to some of the area’s best climbing, floating, hiking, and sightseeing, yet feels completely secluded and immersed in nature. --- The Experience Boxley Birdhouse is fully off-grid, powered by solar energy and rainwater collection. You’ll still have Wi-Fi and phone service, but the home runs on the rhythms of the land. Guests who love peaceful surroundings, wildlife, birdwatching, and wide-open scenery tend to feel most at home here. We’ve put great care into making the cabin comfortable, with cozy bedding, thoughtful furnishings, and inviting indoor and outdoor seating areas so you can relax in every season. Sleeping arrangements include: • King bed upstairs • Twin daybed with pull-out twin trundle downstairs The bathroom features a beautiful indoor clawfoot tub, and the property also includes an outdoor shower (the only shower on site), perfect for a refreshing rinse surrounded by nature. --- Getting Here The property is accessed by a one-mile dirt road that is graded only a few times per year. We strongly recommend all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive vehicles. Because the cabin is fully off-grid, we try to meet most guests at check-in to show you how everything works so you feel comfortable right away. --- Amenities & Comforts • Fully equipped kitchen with cookware and utensils • Fresh local coffee with hand grinder and French press • Wi-Fi and landline (enable Wi-Fi calling for best phone use) • Propane grill • Firepit and chiminea (local fire bans strictly enforced) • Covered deck with seating and views • Heating and **limited air conditioning** **Important energy note:** In warm months, the air conditioner cannot be run at night or after 5 PM, as the batteries cannot support overnight use. We provide a window fan with intake/exhaust options, a floor fan, and plenty of windows for airflow. We do not provide a microwave due to its power demand, and we ask guests to avoid high-heat appliances such as curling irons and to minimize hair dryer use so the solar system can run smoothly. --- The Land & Surroundings You’ll have access to all 46 acres, including the surrounding grounds and bluff area just east of the cabin — a favorite spot for sunrise coffee or sunset views. We are also located in a designated International Dark Sky area, making stargazing here truly spectacular. Much of the wood used in the cabin, including the flooring, was locally sourced, with some harvested directly from the property. Please let us know ahead of time if you have allergies or sensitivities. --- A Few Friendly Notes We do not allow pets, as we have chickens and two cats on the property and want to keep everyone safe and stress-free. We also have a rooster who proudly announces the morning! To help you sleep in, we provide a white noise machine beside each bed. Our flock of hens may even leave you fresh eggs during your stay. --- Want to see the cabin through the seasons, wildlife visitors, and life on the bluff? You can follow along on FB, IG and TT @boxleybirdhouse. Guest access You will have complete access to the cabin and 46 acres. Other things to note Some of the close by adventures include the famous Hawskbill Crag Hike, Buffalo National River (first national river!), Whiteley swimming hole, Historic Boxley Valley where the elk roam, Historic Boxley Baptist church, and much much more!
