Inspired by a tower from the Spanish Pyrenees, the romantic tower cottage is a restful retreat. Only two miles from Cornell and the Ithaca city limits, your private residence is tucked into the woods with views of the pond and hillside meadow, it is furnished with Stickley Mission oak furniture, custom made ironwork, and a superior California king-size bed. The tower cottage is a two story tower and a main living area of about 22' x 11'. It is tucked into the woods with views of the hillside and pond, and private back deck. The living area is furnished with Stickley Mission furniture - a comfortable leather sleeper sofa made up with a memory foam mattress topper, side tables, tabouret tables, a flat screen television on a Harvey Ellis console, a Stickley rocker and a footstool. The dining area has a round Mission oak dining table with four chairs. The kitchenette has a small fridge and freezer, microwave oven, induction burner, coffee maker, and plates, glasses, utensils, etc. French doors lead to a private back deck in the woods with two comfy chairs and footstools. The first floor of the tower has a glass tiled shower, waterless toilet, and heated floor tiles around the sink and changing area. A wrought iron railing and cantilevered stone steps bring you upstairs to an luxuriously comfortable organic (latex, wool and cotton) California-king bed, custom made for the space by the Southard Company, a fourth generation family owned business in Syracuse, NY. A door at the top of the stairs opens out to a small wrought iron balcony. The tower has an air-to-air electric heat pump for quiet air-conditioning, but we’ve found that the tower bedroom functions as a chimney, pulling up cool air from the shaded first floor windows, creating a very pleasant breeze when the weather is not steamy hot. The tower cottage also has wifi and cable television. Your hosts, Nancy and Buzz, live on the property, so they are available for any questions or concerns, but it is not necessary to check in with them upon arrival . The tower cottage is located in the Ellis Hollow neighborhood, two miles southeast of the Ithaca City Limits and close to Cornell. We are on over eleven acres in a quiet residential neighborhood which has grown up on a reclaimed stone quarry over the last forty years. You can enjoy a rural hike by just going 'around the block' - a 40 to 50 minute hike up the hill on Quarry Road, over Snyder Hill Road (with views of open meadows) to Genung Road (a beautiful wooded walk down the hill) and finish up with a quick walk along the sometimes fairly busy Ellis Hollow Road back to Quarry Road. Sapsucker Woods Laboratory of Ornithology is nearby as is the East Hill Shopping Plaza which has a good bagel shop/deli, Collegetown Bagel and Appitizers, a locally owned grocery store, a liquor store, a laundromat and a small gym. A pharmacy and Agave Restaurant are just around the corner from the East Hill Plaza. Let us know if you'd like a coupon for a discount or free dessert at Agave - we recommend it! TCAT buses stop on the corner just 300 yards from the property about once an hour - however they travel over much of the county before they bring you downtown. They can bring you to Cornell, downtown, the East Hill Plaza for shopping or meals, or connecting to other routes which can take you almost anywhere else in the county. Lyft, Uber and taxis are most often taken by guests when they want a direct trip to the airport or back from a night on the town. Limosine services provide transportation along the Cayuga or Seneca wine trails.
