The Coach House is a unique three-bedroom house with an extra downstairs games room that includes a bunk bed. It is suitable for up to 8 people and has two bathrooms, polished timber floors, a cosy wood fire, gas heating, a BBQ, a pool table, and a large kitchen. The kitchen and upstairs loungeroom windows overlook Stringer's Creek and the magnificent views of the Walhalla bushland. The space The Walhalla Coach House is a unique property featuring polished timber floors, wooden shutters, and a solid wooden front door that has to be seen to be believed. The spacious downstairs lounge/games room has a comfortable couch and bunk, and there are bookshelves crammed with your favorite reads. The room features a pool table and a piano. There are lovely views onto the lawn and across Stringers Gorge to the tourist railway line. There is a toilet and hand basin adjacent to this room. The fully equipped kitchen/dining room has views across the valley, plenty of bench and cupboard space, crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans, a full-size fridge, a gas oven/grill/cooktop, and a gas heater to take the chill off in Winter. The dining table and eight chairs provide seating for everybody. There is also an Ikea highchair available for toddlers (no tray). A complimentary supply of tea, coffee, and sugar is provided for your arrival. The bathroom features a lead-light window and a deep bath, perfect for kids or adults to luxuriate in and enjoy a long soak. There is also a separate shower in the bathroom and a separate toilet off the downstairs lounge for your convenience. Upstairs, the spacious lounge boasts a TV with streaming services available, and a cosy wood fire. There is also wall panel heating to take the chill off in Winter. Games, puzzles, board games, cards, toys and books are provided for your entertainment. Adjacent to the lounge is a bathroom featuring a toilet, basin and a shower with a deep base suitable for bathing babies or small children. Of course, you can just sit back with a glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere while gazing into the fire or enjoying the views across Stringers Gorge. Stringers Creek flows through the valley directly below the house, and the only noise to disturb the tranquility is the rushing creek, the calls of the black cockatoos, kookaburras, and lyrebirds, or the whistle of the steam train as it passes by. The large Master bedroom, off the lounge room, features a king size bed, down doona, bedside lamps, antique furnishings, a baby’s cot (compliant to Australian safety standards) and more stunning bushland views. The second bedroom also opens on to the lounge room and has a double bed with a cosy feather doona, bedside lamps and an antique dressing table. The third bedroom has a bunk bed and plenty of toys for the kids. Outdoors There are some chairs outside for you to enjoy the views across Stringer’s Creek. There is an undercover BBQ on the back porch. The property is not fenced and guests are not permitted to ramble beyond the boundaries of the home. The property uses tank water, so we ask guests to be conservative with their water use. As of 2022, the property is connected to mains-supplied electricity, and WiFi is now available. Please note: the price listed is a base price for 4 people, with a small fee increase per extra guest per night. There is a 2-night minimum stay on weekends. All linen is included in the fee. Guest access You will have access to the whole house. I will not be there, you rent out the entire house to yourselves. However, I am just a phone call away and can be contacted if you have any questions or issues. You also have the option of renting the one-bedroom, two-person cottage next door, Stringer's Cottage. It is fully self-contained and comes with all linen and a queen bed made up for your arrival. While staying at the Coach House, you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private with the only sounds the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about 20 minutes from the rest of the town. Everything is walking distance, and the house sits above the tourist railway line, a 1-minute walk away. There is parking for 3 vehicles in the driveway. Walhalla has just one long main road and we are the first house. The pub is a 10-minute walk, and then it's a further 10 minutes to the rest of the shops. The gold mine is a further 10 minutes past the shops. You can walk to the top of the town along the road in half an hour, depending on your pace, and return via the walking track that gives a view over the town. This track continues a further 5 kilometeres to Thomson River and you can catch the tourist train back if you time it right. History: The Coach House was built between 1968-72, by the former Walhalla and Thomson River Steam Tramway Pty Ltd, (W&TRST) as hostel accommodation for voluntary workers who intended to rebuild the former railway between Thomson and Walhalla, which they did!
