Check out the dates for our Fall special rates. A peaceful spot amid woods & pasture. Restful nights after a day of exploring, in a large tent with a queen bed, 4-person tent with 2 twin beds, & comfy bedding. Composting toilet & hot shower are nearby. There is a screen house with kitchen, dining room, living room. Cook your meals on a camp stove or grill. Badminton, frisbee, or a walk in the woods? Plenty of ways to amuse yourself here, or explore the area. The campsite in a semi-secluded pasture surrounded by trees, with lots of space to relax, play games and spread out. It's a place for great family fun, a romantic retreat, or everything in between. The tents have real mattresses, optional air beds, pillows, sheets and blankets. Drinking water is provided when you arrive. You have fuel for the camp stove and a grill. Right now we don't have a cooler, so bring your own. In the evening, build up a fire in our fire pit with wood we provide... or have the real experience and gather your firewood in the woods all around you! Our guests proclaim the s'mores to be a highlight of their stay and graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars will be waiting for you. We are pretty distant from any city so the stars you will see here are unbelievable. The toilet tent has a composting bench and a cabinet with all your needs. Wood shavings are provided; use generously! When I was a kid my family and my uncle's often went camping together, but since he was a widower, and my dad was disinclined, my mom was in charge of most of the domestic tasks. We had big fun, but lately I realized It might not have been so much fun for Mom! The packing up alone must have been a huge chore: having to think of everything we would need when we got there! I've taken that experience and tried to anticipate the domestic needs of a camping family. Your kitchen has everything you need, from paper goods to cooking necessities. You can enjoy the outdoors without having to remember everything including the kitchen sink. Just bring your groceries. we have oatmeal, coffee, tea, and other basics there for you. The bathroom tent is in a private spot. There's lots of outdoor seating, fire pit and lots and lots of space for your kids to explore, supervised. For more pictures and video, search for the Cooley-Davies Homestead on social media. Feel free to explore your area of the property, but please have your kids be supervised. If you would like to take a look around the rest of the farm, please let us know. I am usually around, weeding or working on a project and would be happy to take you around. My other rental, a tiny house, is across the driveway. There's a considerable distance between the two sites. We ask that guests not approach the house, as our rescue pup is very reactive with strangers. But I have my phone with me at all times, so do text. if you want to come in advance of your stay to check the place out, you must let us know in advance. Our Wi-Fi does not reach the campsite, but cell service at the campsite is decent, most of the time. I will wash a load of your laundry for $20 and deliver it to your door! I live a few hundred feet from the campsite, and I will be available to cater to your every reasonable need. I've lived here for 26 years and know a lot about the area, so inquire freely. The best way to contact me is text; I asked guests not to approach the house as it upsets my reactive rescue pup. My husband and I created this homestead 26 years ago. We raised our kids here and have deep roots. He died in 2019, and while we still grieve, we honor his memory and work hard together to create financial stability so that we can continue to live well as we work to make the world a better place...each in our different ways. It's in the spirit that we create these spaces for our guests. We welcome you and want to make your stay not only happy and fun but meaningful as well. We love conversation and connection; we adore children and the people who love them. We will interact with you as much or as little as makes you comfortable. Walking on our road is gorgeous, with a very pretty pond less than half mile away, and lots of trails in the immediate area. Ralph's Cafe in Brooks is a neighborhood favorite; you don't want to miss their breakfasts and their baked goods, including donuts to die for. Brooks (5 miles away) also has a grocery store, hardware store and food co-op. It's a sleepy little part of the state, with great people. I have been told by guests that I live in the middle of nowhere. It doesn't seem that way to me; of course, all of our little worlds are centered on where we live. I was raised in the Bronx, New York, a place nobody would mistake for being in the middle of nowhere so you would think I could tell the difference. There are no street lights on Maine country roads. They are narrow, often have no shoulders, and there are turns and twists and hills. If you arrive by our check-in time, you'll be fine. If you're going to arrive after dark, let me know in advance and I'll make sure that you're clear on all the landmarks that will lead you here. You must have a car to get around. As September arrives, my violin studio activities pick up, as well as my children's programs. This affects check-in times. I may ask you to adjust your time of arrival. Check-in before dark is highly encouraged, as a quick tour will maximize your enjoyment from the start. The tent site has no electricity. we have battery powered lamps and flashlights. There is no hot water except in the shower, but drinking water is available from a spigot by the parking area. I will wash a load of your laundry for $20 and deliver it to your door! Get used to checking each other for ticks during the whole time you spend in Maine.
