Welcome to The Highland Greenhouse. Conveniently located in the beautiful Highland Hamlet, only a 75 minute drive north of NYC or quick 8 minute Uber ride from the Poughkeepsie Station (MetroNorth & Amtrak is a 1.5 hour picturesque ride along the Hudson River). We are a 15 minute walk to the Rail Trail & 30 minute walk from the famous Walkway Over the Hudson. Our relaxing, dog friendly accommodation is fantastic for the outdoorsy city dwellers looking for an adventurous escape! The space ** We have decided to pause all bookings due to personal use for the Fall/Winter season '21-'22 and will revisit rentals by request for the Spring/Summer season '22, please feel free to reach out by message for special requests. Thank you for your patience. ** *** In order to ensure that your booking goes smoothly, please make sure you and your guests understand and agree to all house rules before booking your stay - they are located at the bottom of listing under "Things to Know", we appreciate you taking this extra step before messaging us. *** Nature lovers rejoice! Make all of your cottage core dreams a reality in our tranquil woodland retreat. Enjoy our beautifully landscaped front and back yard, with many lush flowers, ferns and vines. Cook a feast in our spacious, functional and fully stocked kitchen, where we encourage you to pick from our freshly grown herbs from the kitchen sink planter (seasonal) or fire up the grill and then enjoy dinner al fresco on our backyard deck, followed by a cozy fire in the fire pit area. After a relaxing and revitalizing sleep on our fresh beds and fluffy pillows, start your morning right with our indulgent coffee & tea station with choices for all tastes, including: an assortment of teas, k-cups, and Nespresso (Vertuo) pods, sugar, and stevia in the raw, coffee-mate mini cups, Nespresso Vertuo machine, Keurig + carafe drip combo machine, french press, Moka espresso stovetop pot, electric kettle, and a milk frother. Enjoy your cuppa and delicious breakfast in our cozy nook before you are ready to take on the day! Want to sing a tune before dinner? Play a sweet melody on our upright piano and have your friends harmonize with our guitar and ukuleles. If you're not musically gifted, we have a sweet little record player and have a variety of vinyl for you to play. No TV's doesn't mean no fun!!! We prioritize connection and conversation by taking attention off TV's. But, if you are wanting to cozy up with a movie and some popcorn, you can stream your choice of video service: Netflix, HBOMax, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Hulu, YouTube, ESPN+ and more on our pull-down screen above the piano through our Roku equipped projector. Working from home? So are we, and we understand. The new norm is not an issue at our house! We offer free high-speed and reliable Wi-Fi (400 Mbps), and we've equipped each bedroom with a comfortable and functional workspace so that you can get some work in before rewarding yourself with a relaxing good time. There is something for everyone at The Highland Greenhouse! ** UPDATE: as of June 17th, 2021, after almost 65 years of providing comfy upstate living to multiple generations; in addition to heat, our beautiful cottage in the woods now offers A/C (2 high-efficiency units, 1 in kitchen, and 1 in living room) and we have added an oscillating fan tower to each bedroom for all-season comfort. Please be sure to keep all windows/doors closed in order for our A/C to do its thing <3! ** Our delightfully walkable location is within walking distance to: - Highland Hamlet (bodega, coffee shops, brewery, dining, shopping) - 10 min walk, 0.5 miles - The Hudson Valley Rail Trail (walking & biking) - 15 min, 1 mile - Twaalfskill Creek (fishing) - 5 min walk, 0.2 miles - Illinois Mountain Park (kayaking, lake beach, hiking, picnic tables) - 30 min, 1.5 miles - Walkway Over the Hudson (walking, biking, sightseeing) - 30 min walk, 1.5 miles We are also a quick driving distance from: - Hannaford Supermarket (they also deliver)- 7 min drive, 2 miles - Shamrock Wine & Liquors (giant liquor store) - 4 min drive, 1 mile - Dollar General - 4 min drive, 1 mile - New Paltz Water Street Market (shopping & dining) - 15 min drive, 8.2 miles - Nearby cities with attractions include: New Paltz, Kingston, Woodstock, Newburgh, Rosendale, Rhinebeck, and Esopus to name a few. Enjoy the beautiful Highland Hamlet like a local! Car not necessary, but helpful! Guests can come up from the city on the Amtrak (1 hr 30-minute ride) or Metro-North (2-hour ride), and Uber to The Highland Greenhouse from the Poughkeepsie Station ($12-$20 ride). * Disclaimer * When renting our home, please keep in mind that you are renting an older house in a heavily wooded area. Some floors are creaky and our home has some quirks that add to her character. We are located in a very quiet and lovely neighborhood and our house backs up into acres of unbothered woodland. With nature comes wildlife. From wild turkeys, to bears, to deer, to mice, and bugs, you never know what might be foraging nearby. No need to fear. The mountain is their home too: they make mountain magic come to life. That said, although we do our best to keep our home pest free organically, there are times when some wildlife will come inside (usually stink bugs, ants, and spiders, we usually find them by the windows), try to keep windows and doors closed to prevent them from getting inside. Please be kind to these critters if they do make their way in, unless they pose a threat, and embrace the upstate life! Guest access When you have arrived at our location, please remember that our property only fits three cars max in our driveway. No cars are allowed to park on the street or on our grass. See picture 51 for reference. Other things to note ** Trash Day **: please be aware that someone comes by on Thursdays to bring trash bins down to the street and comes back on Fridays to put them back up the driveway. If you prefer to not have someone come on the property to do this job during your stay, and would rather do it yourself, just let us know at time of booking. ** Security Cameras/Smart House**: we have a total of 3 security cameras facing the outside entries at: front door, basement door and back deck/kitchen door. There are zero indoor cameras. We have a security system, smart thermostat, smart lights and smart lock. These are there to facilitate your stay and to protect both you, our guests as well as us & our property. Although we live in a very safe neighborhood, let us know if you would like us to provide you with a personalized security code for the alarm system.
