Apple Pod - Huge Secret Garden in the City
Apple Pod - Huge Secret Garden in the City
Description
Our comfy Apple Pod is set in a private acre of woodland in St Werburghs, which is a bohemian family neighbourhood with fantastic local amenities. With views of the allotments and bordered by a nature reserve, you’d never know you’re walking distance from the city centre. We have compost loos and a hot shower. Parking is free, with no restrictions on our street. What we offer is basic but beautiful, with a friendly and welcoming reception. Min 2 nights stay! We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly space. The space The Apple Pod has two double beds and a large seating area, with a fold away table. There is solar powered lighting, with USB points for phone or other small appliance charging. A small gas heater keeps you cosy on the colder nights and the sides can be raised for more light and air in fine weather. There are blackout covers for the windows. There are two large, covered communal seating areas, one of which is the designated smoking area. There's no kitchen but we provide a small stove for making hot drinks. There are two compost loos, a hot shower and a sink, which provides drinkable cold water. Wandering around you’ll find a zip line, swings, a slide, hammocks and many dens. You can spot frogs, toads and newts in our two ponds and an enormous variety of trees and plants. Depending on when you visit you might be able to pick your own wild garlic, tri-cornered leek, plums, mulberries, apples, quinces, blackberries and wild strawberries. If you're lucky you might see some interesting wildlife too. In the past we've seen foxes, shrews, badgers, slow worms, lizards and so many birds. Most of the time the garden is used by a non-profit learning community, which is subsidised by guests like you staying at weekends and during the holidays, so please don't expect hotel or glamping standards because this is not the main use of the site. There's no wifi but mobile reception is reasonable, as you would expect from an urban environment. Guest access Guests have exclusive use of the Apple Pod and shared use of the rest of the one acre site, including all our facilities and communal spaces. The garden is shared with our family and guests from the yurt and the other pod on the site. There are occasionally community days, where we do some work on the site and I'll let you know if there’s one planned during your stay. Other things to note * We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly, anti-racist and neuro-affirming space. * In order to keep our accommodation more affordable, we charge according to beds used and extra guests will always incur a charge. * We are family friendly. Please add infants as a child guests if you need a bed made up for them. * We appreciate you letting us know a rough arrival time in advance. * We have lovely neighbours, so no amplified music or loud noise after 10pm or before 10am please. * Smoking is strictly only allowed in the ‘Dragons Nest’ designated smoking area. * Fires and candles aren’t permitted anywhere on site. * The entrance to the garden is up a steep slope so unfortunately it’s not a fully accessible space.
