Lewiston's historic Normal Hill neighborhood is where the city's prosperous built their stately Victorian mansions. Many survive as single family homes and have been restored to their original turn of the century character. Prospect Avenue runs along the rim of Normal Hill with unobstructed views of the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers (aka Lower Granite Lake). For this reason, Prospect Ave is a popular walking & jogging route for locals. Prospect Ave is a moderately busy arterial for local access and LCSC & St Joe's commuters, but quiets down in the evening. The rivers have been tamed by the Lower Granite Dam, 25 miles downstream, since the early 1970's. The US Corps of Engineers, Washington & Idaho states, and the cities of Lewiston and Clarkston have established multiple parks and trails along the bank of what is now called Lower Granite Lake.
