Description
Paringa Wilderness Stay is the regions premier private accommodation being one hundred acres of absolute privacy, neighbouring the Nymboi-Binderay National Park. This unique setting is bound to sooth your soul. Whether you are looking for an active, adventures holiday or time away to rejuvenate, this very private and tranquil getaway has it all. This one-off stay is sewn deep within some of our most breathtaking, and protected, natural worlds. The space Welcome! Paringa, the name of this unique wilderness stay means ‘home on the river’ in Aboriginal dialect. This private property is over 100 acres of stunning rain forest and extensive old forest and home to a habitat of a rich variety of birds, wildlife and flora that crowds into this stunning pristine environment. Paringa wilderness stay is situated on the Nymboida River a few kilometres downstream from the Junction of the Little Nymboida. In a NSW Government study done on the endangered Eastern Fresh Water Cod, it refers to the section of the Mann and Nymboida Rivers between Jackadgery and the Junction as being the last genuine pristine sections of the Clarence River system. Paringa is arguably on one of the most picturesque river bends of that section. The neighbouring properties to the east and west boundaries are National Parks or Forestry so the endless tracks and trails are on the doorstep making this location ideal for mountain bikers and avid bush walkers. The property is also situated on the Clarence Canoe & Kayak Trail – the longest white water trail in Australia. It covers more than 195 km of river between the Nymboi-Binderay National Park and the township of Copmanhurst encompassing the Nymboida, Mann and Clarence river systems. It offers spectacular scenery, an abundance of wildlife and some exhilarating whitewater adventure. You are bound to see some kayakers/canoers drifting past while sitting on the verandah of the barn. An early morning walk around the grounds with the dappled sunlight streaming through the tall trees and hearing only the sounds of the abundant bird life and the sound of broken water of the gentle rapids will give you a rare sense of being truly alone and at one with nature. Nothing will take you further away from the urgency of modern times. To top it off, an early morning or late evening paddle on the large quiet pools of the river will give you an opportunity to see platypus frolicking on the surface. While the absolute privacy, stunnig beauty and pristine surrounds may give you a sense of remoteness, you are only an hour and a half drive from the stunning surf beaches of Yamba, Brooms Head and Woolie/Minni Waters and Coffs Coast. Close by to the west follow the Heritage trails to the stunningly beautiful waterfalls of Dorrigo and Ebor. Visit the four-hundred-year-old stand of Tallow Wood trees and finish with a pleasant cuppa in the garden at the Ulong General Store. The Barn A well-equipped open barn holds up a spot on the river with ever changing views and bush, surrounded by an unique combination of stunning landscaped rolling lawns and rugged wilderness scenery. With the barns raw charm comes a sense of being somewhat exposed to the elements and the frequent night visits from some of the native wildlife such as the Brushtail Phascogale, Antechinus and a befriended Fuscipes (native bush rat) named “Jimmy” who may want to join you on the couch to be hand fed if you are having dinner in front of the tv. If that is not your thing, just shoo him away and he will get the message. The barn is well-appointed. It is a gentle place, sheltered and protective with easy access to the river for swimming, canoeing and fishing and is appointed with all the creature comforts, allowing you to relax in style. Inside, quality bedding and a bathroom with large shower and claw foot bath allow for relaxation. Light some candles and take your time. Comfy couches make perfect space for reading, day snoozing, relaxing while taking in the natural environment. The kitchen is very well equipped with a gas stove and oven, a high-quality fridge and plenty of pots and pans, utensils and pantry stock items so you can cook till your hearts content. Outside is a never-ending discovery. A well landscaped and maintained garden surrounds the barn and is perfect for a picnic on the river bank, a refreshing swim and lawn games. A designated fire pit area overlooking the garden and river is perfect to enjoy nights around the campfire watching the stars and feast on a camp oven cook up. Are you looking for more action? Canoeing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, rain forest gully walks, bird watching and bush walking are a few to pick from. Guest access This peaceful, comfortable stay offers exclusive privacy and private access. You will be the only guest staying at the time with the hosts being offsite. The hosts will welcome you on your arrival to run you through the basics of the property and answer any of your questions. Other things to note - We would note that the barn is a basic structure. It is weather proof, however it has no lockable windows as such. The large openings are protected with roll down weather proof block out blinds (manually operated). Staying at this property is akin to camping being exposed to the elements of nature such as small insects, small marsupials and wind. However it's well equipped with loads of character and plenty of creature comforts. The king size bed on the verandah is slightly more exposed during stormy weather but is generally often preferred by our guests due to its unique close to nature charm. - There is no mobile network available at the barn, however there is Telstra reception at the properties entrance gate 1.2 km away, a short drive up or a most enjoyable twenty minute walk depending on fitness. Wi-fi calling is available at the barn (check your phone and provider for capability) - The site is totally off-grid. It is equipped with reliable satellite internet service and a small .75 kw solar power system that comfortably runs the generously sized Electrolux fridge, charging and running low consumption electronics such as phones and laptops, two to three hours of night viewing on the tv and enough lighting to be comfortable. Other appliances such as the washing machine and extended viewing of tv should be used during the charging daylight hours. (good news for cricket and golfing fans with Foxtel included) High consumption items such as irons, micro wave ovens, hair driers and straighteners are not supported. During extended periods of no or low solar charging weather, alternative generator power is available by way of a brand new, easy start, super quiet 2kw Honda unit. Fuel is provided for essential usage. -This is a remote property, so please make sure you arrive well-prepared and before dark. ~ Paringas' private access road off Black Mountain Road is 1200m long. It is an all weather road in excellent condition. All wheel drive vehicles are recommended though not essential. Due to the unsealed nature of the road, the steeper sections in wet weather may prove tricky for two wheel drive, light weight tray back utes. With just a few hours of sunshine following rain, ingress and egress to the property is not a problem for just about any type of passenger vehicle. -If you would like to book for more than 6 guests please discuss with us before hand (limited to 8 guests) so we can make sleeping arrangements (or you can pitch your own tent). Kids are welcome but bare in mind you're in a rural setting that comes with the usual hazards of such an environment with the close proximity of the river(a mere fifth meters away) and bush land with steep gullies and drop offs. To make your stay as comfortable as possible we have the following items available for your use: ~3-one person- kayaks and 1 Canadian canoe with paddles and life jackets (max 6) ~Weber Barbecue with gas bottle ~campfire wood ~camp oven ~binoculars ~matches and candles ~essential pantry items ~shampoo, conditioner and shower gel ~doggy bowls, bed and blankets ~lawn games like cricket, volleyball, badminton, giant jenga ~picnic blanket and basket - board games ~lots of books -This property is a great experience in all weather. However the river is subjected to flooding during extended periods of heavy rain. In such an event access to the property may be cut off by the Nymboida or contributing water courses and gullies, however, even in larger floods the road generally becomes passable within twelve to twenty four hours due to the steep nature of the terrain. We will always keep an eye on weather forecasts and will give you warning as soon as possible. On the upside of lots of rain are the picturesque flowing rain forest gullies on the property creating the perfect opportunity to see the waterfalls in action. ~Paddling on the Nymboida upstream between Paringa and The Junction requires little expertise and is a perfect way to immerse yourself in what this river is really about. Being on or in this river will fill you with an emotion that is really quite hard to put into words. You'll just have to find out for yourself and what it will mean to you. For a more adventurous paddle you can head downstream toward the village with multiple pick up points along the way depending on how big a day you wish to make of it. For the serious paddler the Clarence river boasts the longest white water trail in Australia starting here at the Junction and if you are keen enough you can navigate your way to mouth of the Clarence at Yamba on the coast. It has been done by many an enthusiast. For additional knowledge on this and arranging pick up and drop off of people and equipment, contact the NYMBOIDA CAMPING & CANOEING –They will provide you with a fee for service arrangement, if available at the time, separate to your Paringa booking. To make your paddling or kayaking adventure safer and more enjoyable, check out the paddling safety tips on National Parks NSW website -In order to protect the diminishing numbers of the endangered eastern freshwater cod, you are required by law to release them if caught. On the spot fines of $2,500 are imposed by fisheries for targeting or taking cod and fines increase substantially during the closed fishery season from first of August to thirty first October.
