A large private suite in an 1885 estate. This fine room includes a private full bath and comes furnished for immediate occupancy. The rate includes basic utilities and wifi. These suites offer value as relevant as any studio apartment with + huge additional shared amenities. The forward courtyard has off street parking for all. Being furnished and utilities adds good value and ease of renting for many types of uses by; visiting nurses, business and remodeling stays, or anyone this may interest. This suite is the master and is large! This rental is monthly; please send a message or inquiry to discuss dates and other questions to begin. Terms can vary as we can be of interest to visiting nurses, business stays as well as new area arrivals and remodel stays (or rented by anyone qualified). This rents monthly and longer term if desired. One can start a month and continue at a lower rate and then using a 30 day notice to end. You may also ask for a lease. The bath has both shower and tub and there is an amazing oversized walk in closet. There is also a full length patio right at 'squirrel level' in the oak trees. Its a great pastime to watch them prance and chase across the branches. The Estate has 10 rooms and the current renters are a senior couple, a gentleman, several students of which most have graduated and simply stay on, a resident displaced by the Hawaii fire, etc. An artist uses out back and is going on 4 years now. Several renters, including the seniors in from Tennessee (1.5 years) as they visit their grandchild (of the artist), often decorate and celebrate holidays through the year. One can rent and come and go privately, or enjoy the festivities and southern hospitality the different times of year can produce. The shared kitchen is self catered (clean as you go) and the common areas have housekeeping. The historic ballroom has a grand piano and several seating areas during spring and summer to fall. The grounds encompass 1.6 acres and includes the Wicket Walk, the New Orleans and the River Rock gardens, each with sitting areas and patios. There are shared housing rules, including a limit to outside guests and other mutual rules which preserve the common areas for equal use to all. Pets are not encouraged, but small ones can be considered with a fee to offset housekeeping. Text to David to discuss, and thanks! History: F.R. Bains bought the estate in 1913 while the President of the Gas Company, to 'winter' away from Los Angeles. One could just ride North from L.A. and stay on paved roads to Montecito in that year. While his wife was adding our famous Ballroom ( architect Julia Morgan of Hearst Castle fame ), she passed unexpectedly and he rented the estate for a time. Dorinda Bliss then rented here while constructing Casa Dorinda up the street, building from the Fletcher's fortune left by her husband. Do you recall Fletcher's Laxative? Our rooms are clean and very comfortable, and each room is the size of a modern living room, built in another era. And all guests have exclusive access to the Ballroom, which has desk areas, TV, a pool table and lovely conversation spots. Envision Paderewski playing piano or Martha Graham dancing by barefoot in front of Julia's first giant fireplace ( ala Citizen Kane). "On March 9th, 1917. Martha Graham danced barefoot in her first public performance, and Head of State Paderewski preformed deep in to the night in 1920, enchanted by the acoustics of the Ballroom. He was more than his famous composer status at the time, being the President of the new free Poland after WW1. When Ms. Dorinda Bliss rented the Estate in the 1910's, her daughter also bought Dumbarton Oaks with her diplomat husband in Washington D.C. That East Coast Estate became the origin and host of the United Nations, formed after WW2, before their eventual building could be built. Of recent times, in 2004 Ms. Evelyn Keyes of Gone With the Wind fame stayed at the Estate until her passing in 2008, and many celebrities of her era were visitors and companions during those years." In a local History Article: "More and more wealthy people, drawn to Santa Barbara when it was in its heyday as a fashionable health resort, began establishing luxurious private estates in Montecito during the 90s. This trickle became a flood after the Potter Hotel opened in 1902, luring such ultra-rich names as Rockefeller, Carnegie, Fleischmann, Cudahy, DuPont, Swift, McCormick, Bliss and others. Many of them fell in love with the area’s incomparable scenery and climate and began developing fabulous estates in suburban Montecito, ranging in size from 30 to 200 acres. The ruling echelons of the millionaire migration were dubbed “The Hill Barons” because their palatial mansions occupied hilltops overlooking Montecito’s beautiful woodlands. A working-class population to serve the needs of the wealthy increased in Montecito and social patterns began to emerge. The original Hispanic inhabitants kept pretty much to themselves in the shady bosques of Old Spanish Town, where they built two dance halls, a cantina, taverns, and a co-op store known as “La Cooperacion” which was destroyed in the disastrous floods of January, 1914. The middle-class Americans built two recreation centers in Montecito Village, Montecito Hall in 1897, Montecito Home Club in 1908. A popular social center for the elite was “The Peppers” at 430 Hot Springs Road, built around 1900. Its ballroom, with a balcony to accommodate a large orchestra, was the scene of a piano recital by Paderewski, a vocal concert by Madame Schumann-Heink, and the dancing debut of Santa Barbara’s world-famous Martha Graham."
