Description

In a secluded countryside setting, this peaceful cottage sits among ancient woods and moorland. With sweeping views and the sea a short drive away, it’s a place to slow down - relax around the fire-pit beneath starlit skies, free from light pollution. Perfect for dog walkers and cyclists, there are wonderful routes straight from the door. Fern Cottage is bright, spacious and well equipped, with a conservatory and private garden, offering a comfortable home-from-home in an unspoilt landscape. The space With far-reaching views across Exmoor, Fern Cottage offers a deep sense of peace and seclusion - a place to settle into the slower rhythms of rural life. Inside, the cottage feels bright and spacious, centred around a generous sitting room filled with natural light. A south-facing conservatory opens onto a private patio and sunny garden. It’s an easy space to relax in - whether that’s reading, playing games or simply sitting with a cup of tea and enjoying the view. There’s a large comfortable sofa in front of the wood burner, perfect for cosy nights. The TV, DVD player, board games and books offer plenty of ways to unwind. Outside, a firepit and barbecue provide a wonderful setting for long, relaxed evenings overlooking the rolling hills of Exmoor National Park. Toast marshmallows, listen for night owls and take in the vast, star-filled skies - Exmoor is an officially designated International Dark Sky Reserve, making stargazing here truly special. For those seeking space and stillness, this is a place of true seclusion - surrounded by open countryside, forests and peaceful walking routes straight from the door. The large, fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare nourishing meals, including a full-sized oven, four-ring hob and fridge freezer (please note there is no microwave or dishwasher). There’s a dining area seating six, as well as a breakfast bar for two, making it easy to gather and linger over food. On arrival, you’ll find a generous breakfast selection waiting for you — cereals, bread, jams, tea, coffee, milk (plant-based or dairy), and free-range organic eggs from happy local chickens. The master bedroom faces west, overlooking the garden and rolling Exmoor hills. It features an exceptionally comfortable 6ft super-king bed, along with a desk, mirror and built-in wardrobe. The second bedroom also looks out across the garden and countryside, with two single pine beds, a desk with mirror and built-in wardrobe. A spacious bathroom includes a bath with shower, WC and basin. Towels and bed linen are provided, along with shower gel, soap, bubble bath and shampoo/conditioner. The entrance porch offers plenty of room for coats, boots and outdoor gear, with a bench to make coming and going easy after long walks. Inside the hallway, you’ll find a cupboard of thoughtful extras — day bags to borrow, yoga mats, beach towels, buckets and spades - all there to support relaxed days out. Free parking is available directly outside the cottage in the large courtyard. To help you make the most of your time here, the cottage handbook is filled with local recommendations, walks, beaches and day-trip ideas - allowing you to shape each day as gently or as actively as you wish. Guest access Guests have full private use of Fern Cottage, its private garden and the shared courtyard parking area. Other things to note Well-behaved dogs are welcome. We have four rescue dogs of our own who are kept completely separate, though they may occasionally greet visiting dogs from a distance. Dogs must not be allowed on furniture or beds and must not be left alone in the cottage. A charge of £20 per dog per stay applies. Dog towels are provided for muddy paws and there is an outdoor tap at the front of the cottage. All dog waste must be bagged and placed in the outside bin. A refundable additional deposit of £50 is required for dog stays and will be returned if the cottage is left free from damage. Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage. Guests are welcome to smoke outside, where ashtrays are provided. For safety reasons, real candles are not permitted (with the exception of the candle by the fireplace in its glass case). Battery-operated candles are provided for a cosy evening atmosphere. Electric vehicle charging is not available at the property.
