Glenwood Akaroa Bush Retreat - Kanuka Hut

Relax and unwind in one of our unique huts set above Akaroa township with amazing views across the Harbour. Kanuka Hut is a comfortable, cozy unit with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing break. Meander Glenwood's private bush walks, sit in the shade of the ancient Totara and Matai trees in the 'Enchanted Forest', or cool off by the secluded waterfall. Enjoy a tranquil evening on your deck listening to the birdlife and stargazing while soaking in the hot bath tub . The space Kanuka Cabin is our cosy, off-grid hut, powered by the sun. Nestled in secluded native bush, it is the retreat you need to get away from it all. Daylight arrival is required as Kanuka Hut is accessed via a farm track. PLEASE NOTE - There are two options to access your hut: DRIVE IN via the farm track with your 4WD SUV suitable for off-road driving. WALK IN/HOST SHUTTLE: park at the designated Kanuka Hut Carpark near the homestead. Take the moderate 5-minute walk to Kanuka Hut with your bags, via the signposted track, OR request our free shuttle service to the hut. Ken will meet you on arrival and take you and your luggage to Kanuka Hut. Adjoined by a generous covered deck to your combined kitchenette, lounge, and bedroom unit is your private bathroom, complete with a composting toilet and gas hot shower. We practice sustainable ethos and where possible we reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can. Our composting toilet reduces water consumption, and the Green Loo’s waste is turned into compost and put back on the land, returning to nature what we borrowed from it. Cooking is done outside on the BBQ. Natural mineral well water straight from the tap is safe to drink, with no chlorine added. A mini fridge will keep your food and drinks cool. Take a look at our other hut, Totara, if off-grid is not your style. Guest access Make the most of our private walkways and discover for yourself the magic of Glenwood Akaroa. These extensive tracks are private and for paying guests only. We recommend taking the time to explore Glenwood (check out the waterfall on a hot day!) and provide a map of the walkways and property in your hut. Other things to note Off-grid/solar powered. Access is either by your own suitable 4WD SUV vehicle driven directly to your hut, a 5-minute walk from the car park or request our free shuttle service by prior arrangement, or by prior request, our free shuttle service to the hut. Ken will meet you on arrival and take you and your luggage to Kanuka Hut. Please let us know your preferred option before arrival.
