Description
Resthaven Beachside Stay - Lamb Island, Southern Morton Bay Do nothing but relax and enjoy the view, the birds, the sea, walks, swim, eat, drink, relax and unwind. Our club is close, and pubs, clubs and restaurants on nearby islands. Enjoy the sea (including kayaks) from our lawn at high tide, bicycles, and a spa-pool on request. The suite includes a queen bed (only), sea views, a kitchen, bathroom and an outside patio overlooking the bay. There is aircon. No cleaning fee. The space The units is advertised for 2 people and is offered as a comfortable place for a couple or a single person. No pre-teen children please but there may be some flexibility for older kids - see "notes" below and also see the note re "no pets". The Airbnb is totally independent at the lower level in our two storied cottage and is slightly closer to the sea. We are a quiet older couple, and we live on the second floor with our access from the street. Guests have their own access and a nice private enclave to enjoy. You may think our low price reflects the quality of the accommodation - it doesn't. Read the reviews - it's a lovely place and offered below Air BnB's recommended price. We are comfortably retired and just ask for we need as we enjoy sharing our beautiful quiet island environment and meeting nice travellers. There is a general store with some takeaway food (open until sunset) on the island, but selection is limited. You may be best to bring your own food and drink. Our local club is open Wednesday to Saturday nights, with pub-style meals most of those nights. Also please note our check-in time (6pm) as transport may not be available after 6pm and the house is some distance from the wharf. Talk to us if necessary, as other arrangements might be possible. We don't charge a cleaning fee as we think it is wrong to charge you for a cleaner and also expect you to clean up. However, in return, we ask that you do leave the place as you found it. (please stack laundry by the bed.) Your getaway experience starts with the 25-minute sea trip from Redland Bay as you feel your city tensions drop away and the tranquility of the islands surround you. The Airbnb is a (40 sq meters) studio-style unit looking out to the sea and opening to a deck and a grassed slope and stairs to our beachfront. The apartment has private access and has a secure gate. It's like a very well-equipped hotel suite In the main room, there's the queen bed and social space with TV etc. There is a kitchenette with dining and cooking facilities, a separate bathroom (shower), aircon, smart TV, internet workspace, and lounge area. Milk, sugar and fruit juice, is provided along with a few essential food items. Teas, plunger coffee and coffee beans are in the flat, along with instant coffee. We also have a Piccolo Espressotoria Pod machine, but you will need to bring your own Espressotoria Pods. Outside, there's a big private furnished deck area with the barbeque and beautiful sea views. There are two kayaks for your use on the beachfront and you can paddle from the garden at high tide. There is a relaxing spa pool too. In the interests of energy conservation, we ask guests to tell us IN ADVANCE if you want the pool hot (no extra charge). In summer some guests prefer to use the pool unheated. When heated at your request, the hot tub is connected to our solar power array which switches off around 7pm. The jets will not then operate but the pool remains at a good heat for several hours. We swim from our beach at full tide, but we recommend nearby swimming enclosures for safety and comfort. There is a great sandy picnic and swimming beach ten minutes away on Karragarra Island nearby. We have two manual bicycles for you to explore this and other islands. You can take the cycles on interisland ferries and travel for free between islands. The "Lamb Van" run by island volunteers will take you to the Club free, or, for a small charge, anywhere else on the island during (variable) operating hours. There are fly screens on the door and main window. Being Queensland it's wise to use these. Please close doors and windows during bad weather, as the flat faces the prevailing rain direction. If you are looking for a souvenir for your trip Sheryl makes a range of craft items featuring island wildlife and other entertaining characters. She is also author of some original children's books. if you are thinking about presents or a book for a 2 to 6-year-old ask to see her workroom! * Explanatory Notes 1. Morton Bay is a big tidal harbour, and activities on the sea from our beach are recommended an hour or so before and after high tide. If water activities are important to you check the tides before booking. (willyweather dot com dot au (enter "Lamb Island"). 2. IMPORTANT: It's a small island with only a small general store, so bring your own food and drink. Tap water is city supply and safe to drink and our local club is open Wednesday to Sunday and usually serves pub-style meals early in the evening (and takeaways - best between 5.30 and 6.30) If you find yourself short of anything we have a well-stocked pantry or (with a few days' notice) we may be able to buy items for you in advance with our weekly Woolworths order from the mainland. There is a supermarket on the next island five minutes away by ferry, but you are better to bring your own, particularly for the first day. 3. You can cook in the flat which includes an induction plate and an air fryer but no oven (the air fryer cooks most things). You have a fridge and cooking utensils inside, and a table, lights, and barbeque if you want to cook or entertain outside by the spa pool. If you want to bake bread, we can lend you a breadmaker and other cooking utensils. If you need ice, we can lend you an ice maker. Ask if you need a second benchtop induction cooker. We also may be able to provide some meals for an extra charge. One of us is a great cook should you wish to share what is coming out of our kitchen. 4. There are power points (under the desk in the workspace), a digital charger, and relieable Wi-Fi. 5. There's a widescreen TV with Netflix connection. Please do not change settings unless you know what you are doing: If you make your own settings, please put it back to how you found it, including the password as we are older and not instinctive to the technology. We regret we cannot change the long password as it is locked into our solar system. A QR code for easy phone connection to the WIFI is on the cover of the compendium. 6. There's a washer/dryer in the laundry/pantry at the second level and a drying rack for the sun under the table. The laundry is shared with us. 7. Only one guest car please. 8. If you need to pay for anything after arrival (food, souvenirs, books etc), we have a credit/debit card reader. IMPORTANT: This unit is NOT FOR CHILDREN OR INFANTS. There's little for them to do, and there are stairs, steep slopes and sea water close. Only the one queen-size bed! NEW: Due to some recent re-organisation of the house for our grandchildren, we may be able to provide a standard single bed in a discreet alcove accessed from the Airbnb for one older responsible child, BUT ONLY AFTER DISCUSSION WITH US. We will charge $20 per night extra if we agree to this extension. We stress that this is not a location for young children for safety reasons, and as there is nothing to entertain them. 10. Please don't ask to bring infants or pets. Compassionate relaxation of our rules so far has not worked and resulted in cleaning and damage costs. Guest access This is a quiet roomy studio suite for two at a different level to our beach cottage. We live on the property and are available up some external stairs (the laundry is there too) if you need us. You have your own private entrance from the street, and your own sea views and access to the sea, along with sunrise and a gorgeous full moon over the sea once a month. The sloping land between the unit and the sea is your own space while here. Other things to note You can bring your car and park it safely outside, but it's not recommended for short stays due to the vehicle barge expense and the size of the island. We recommend you use the daytime "Lamb Van" run by the local residents' club or you can ask us to transport you. A donation is requested for the lamb van for general use. It is free for trips to and from the Club. The Island is a great place to walk and cycle, enjoy quietness and isolation, and go to the club for a drink (also bottle shop) Wednesday to Sunday. If you do bring a car, you can bring a trailer boat (additional barge fee) and launch from a local ramp. There is fishing on one coast, but there's a marine park around much of the island. You may see dolphin, dugong and turtles while swimming, kayaking or on the ferry. People fish from a recreational pontoon near the ferry terminal and cast from beaches and a spit near our property. It' s worth exploring the other islands for swimming, pubs, clubs and restaurants. The passenger ferry is free for the short distances between the four islands in our group, but you pay from the mainland. There is interesting and attractive shopping and social life at Victoria Point in Redland Bay, 14 minutes away by ferry (you'll need your car at the mainland terminal). We are normally home, and we usually pick guests up from the ferry (this is a very relaxed environment) and return you if we are at home. The Lamb Van will be available if we are not. We keep our price lower by not asking for a cleaning fee. We ask guests to leave the place clean and tidy and to leave used sheets and towels ready for washing. If you are looking for a souvenir for your trip Sheryl has a range of craft items featuring island wildlife and is the author or some entertaining children's books if you are thinking about presents for kids. Ask to see her workroom if you are interested - her mugs and books are in high demand at local markets!
