Description

A unique, romantic getaway in the beautiful Goldstream Valley, only 15 minutes away from town! Spectacular aurora viewing, away from light pollution, and close winter trail access. This cozy yurt offers privacy amongst the spruce trees and will make you feel close to nature! The yurt is well-insulated from the elements relative to other yurts. Pets not allowed! *The outhouse is a short walk away from the front door; no indoor toilet or shower. There is running hot and cold water in the kitchen! The space The yurt is located on its own private driveway and no neighboring cabins are viewable from the yurt pad to give guests their privacy. There is parking space available for 2 cars - please contact host if you need to park a trailer or RV for alternative parking on the property. There is a firepit available for use during the winter months only (September - April). Inside the yurt, I have a queen-size bed and a sleeper futon. As the futon is smaller sized, the bed is best suited for 2 adults to share and futon can accommodate children or shorter adults (< 5'3). Upon request, I can supply an inflatable full-size twin mattress. The kitchen has all of the basic cookware and baking-ware. I supply coffee and powder-creamer, a coffee grinder, and both pourover & french press coffee brewer options. I also try to keep olive oil, flour, sugar, and all of the basic spices stocked. See photo of spice rack. The outdoor-string lights along the driveway to the outhouse can be turned off for aurora viewing. I leave them on the dusk/dawn setting for guests prior to arrival in case arriving in dark hours. I supply 1 extension cord to plug in your vehicles for the cold temperatures. I recommend plugging in vehicle in temperatures colder than 0 °F (or -18 °C) I have 1 security camera mounted on a tree that monitors the yurt entrance, parking area, and driveway. Guest access Guests may access areas along the yurt driveway, yurt pad, and yard viewable from yurt. I ask guests to give my tenant & I our privacy and restrict activity at the other living areas on the property! Other things to note As we have permafrost in Fairbanks, many cabins in interior Alaska are dry, meaning there is no plumbing. The yurt is similar to a glamourized dry cabin, with no indoor shower or indoor toilet! There is an accessible outhouse with a lighted path and nearby options for cheap shower access! I provide a guidebook in the yurt for various shower options. That also means that the sink water drains into buckets underneath the sink that need to be manually emptied outside. Although the yurt may look like a dry cabin, it is very much a big tent. Because it is essentially a big tent, you may hear noises of nature (and occasional sled dogs howling). If you are a very light sleeper, this may not be the stay for you. Also, ventilation is important when staying in a tent! I have a ceiling fan, moveable fan, and dehumidifier inside. The skylight/dome also opens to let in fresh air; it will have a mesh screen for buggy months ;). I appreciate any feedback or notes from my guests :)
