Description
Get away from it all when you stay under the stars in this eco friendly wood cabin nestled among the trees. Watch the birds feeding on the decking, take a plunge in the outside bath and gaze at the stars, tinkle on the baby grand piano. The perfect place for time to stand still! Oh and don’t worry - if outside bathing isn’t for you there is an inside bath and an en-suite shower! The space This quirky, rustic retreat sits high among the trees on a large decking area, giving you the feeling of staying in your own private treehouse. Access is via sloped parking and around 15 steps up to the property — not the easiest arrival, but once inside, everything is on one level with a spacious, relaxed feel. The building itself is a wooden “colt” structure, originally gifted by the Norwegians after the war. She’s been here since 1952 and we’re hoping she’ll make it to 100! Full of character and history, she’s what we lovingly call a bit of a ‘Marmite’ house — adored by many returning guests who fall for her rustic charm, but perhaps not ideal for those who prefer pristine, modern finishes. Entire mornings can be spent in bed watching the birds flit between feeders just outside the window, marvelling at the endless shades of green in the leaves, and simply reconnecting with each other in soft, organic cotton bedding. It’s the perfect spot to slow down, breathe deeply, and let nature set the pace. You may spot the occasional spider or a hint of country dust, but that’s all part of her timeless, woodland soul. If you’re looking for something a little different — peaceful, romantic, and full of character — this is the perfect place to unwind and feel at home among the trees. Guest access Please note that the parking for the property is up a fairly rough driveway and then parking is on a slope. If you are not happy with this then there is parking in a lay-by opposite. There are 15 brick/concrete steps up to the property so if you have limited access this may not be the property for you. As we are in an area of dark skies we do not light the steps or driveway to help keep our skies dark. We do provide a torch but if arriving in the dark you may want to bring your own torch Other things to note The piano (Alicia (Keys)) is much loved and tuned every year. However she is nearly 100 years old and in a fluctuating environment that can put the tuning out. Some guests crank up the heating and the wood burner to make UP^ all cosy while others throw open the doors and snuggle under blankets outside. We love that guests customise the space but Alicia isn’t so happy with this as she likes a more controlled environment. This is what the piano tuner said last visit (so please don’t expect a concert standard piano) Nice working piano however soft peddle not always working but low peddle works well some high notes won’t tune very well. Perhaps occasional sticking note. Below pitch so no use for accompanying other instruments Towels: for stays of only 2 nights we use eco microfiber bath sheets as these are kinder on the environment than traditional cotton bath sheets that need tumble drying to get all fluffy. If however you require a traditional bath towel please let us know and we will provide them.
