Enjoy morning walks, soaking up the sun by the water, cooling off in the canal or bay, boating or kayaking, watching the seabirds & marine life, and reading in the shade. Our home is situated on a beautiful oversized lot directly on a bay and a canal. There are palm trees and mature plantings around the home to provide privacy. There is off-street parking that can accommodate multiple cars. Home: The open-concept living area (kitchen, dining area, and living room) is on the upper floor along with two bedrooms (king and queen beds) and two full bathrooms. A large screened-in porch on the upper floor is perfect for dining, relaxing, and watching sunsets over the bay. There is a wrap-around porch on the upper floor that connects to a large open seating area with a grill. On the ground floor, there is a bedroom (queen bed), which leads to a second screened-in porch, adjoining a bunk room (bunk bed - full on bottom, single on top) with a kitchenette and a full bathroom. Also on the ground floor is an un-heated/airconditioned bedroom ("Bahamas room") with a full bathroom, a work area with a desk, and a laundry room (with a full-sized washer and dryer). Note: Our Bahamas room is most comfortable in the spring and fall months. Outdoor Area: Situated on a point, the property borders a bay (to the west) and a canal (to the south), so there is water on two of the four sides. Most of the year, the sun goes down directly over the bay providing beautiful sunsets. There is a small outdoor table and two chaise lounges on the seawall swim platform plus adirondack chairs on the sandy point. Both areas are great for morning coffee, relaxing, sunbathing, or afternoon drinks. Most of the year, our family members enjoy swimming and floating in the canal and the bay. We keep a tandem kayak at the house that guests are free to use. It can be easily launched from our small "beach area." Fishing and Boating: You can catch fish from our seawall or beach area using light tackle. We have a fish-cleaning table on the seawall for your convenience. Our private slip on the canal can accommodate most fishing boats or pontoon boats up to 25 feet. Both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico ("back country") are accessible from our property by boat. Note: You must go under a bridge with +/- 15 feet of clearance. The nearest boat ramp is at the Sugarloaf Marina, which is about 1.5 miles away (5 minute drive by car). The Sugarloaf Marina is also the most convenient spot to buy fuel, bait, gear, etc. The staff can also arrange kayak and boat rentals and 1/2 day and full-day fishing trips. Drive Times: Our home is about 30 minutes from the Key West Intl. Airport, 50 minutes from the Florida Keys/Marathon Airport, and 3 hours from the Miami Intl. Airport (although traffic can cause delays). This path leads to US Route 1 (mile marker 17), where the Sugarloaf Lodge, a small marina, and a bus stop are located.
