Immerse yourself in vintage high desert charm! Our 1940's cabin sleeps 3. Located in Water Canyon just 2 miles from famous Pappy and Harriets and Pioneertown's Mane St. Surrounded by majestic views of the Sawtooth Mountains and a short drive to the nearest Joshua Tree Park entrance (Black Rock) and the Pioneertown Mountain Preserve offering plenty of hiking trails. This cabin is a world away from the urban hustle bustle and surrounded by nature. It's a place to get away and listen to the birds sing, watch the coyote's wander in the wash and enjoy breathing in the desert sage air. In addition to the cabin we offer guests the option to reserve our 1957 Aljo trailer we call her the "Little Hoot." We do not rent the "Little Hoot" without the cabin rental. The trailer offers guests another private bedroom option and an extra place to relax just steps away from the cabin door. The trailer is $75 to rent in addition to the cabin rental (see photos for Little Hoot details) We have Starlink internet and it’s great. You can stream movies, shows, and music with ease. There is a 43" flat screen TV connected to a DVD player and a collection of over 55 titles to choose from, including many silent westerns featuring Tom Mix and Annie Oakley (great for background ambiance!) also modern films by directors such as Quentin Tarantino and David Lynch among others. There is no cable TV or broadcast TV, only DVD's. There is a Bluetooth radio in the master bedroom that easily connects to your device. The main source of heat in the cabin is a pellet stove. There is also a wall mounted electric heater in the back room. It's cozy inside the Cabin, however a warm sweater and warm socks are still recommended during the coldest winter months. The pellet stove features simple push button operation and has a thermostat. It can run for about 14 hours before more pellets must be added to the hopper. We provide the pellets. If you're staying for a couple days, you'll probably need to add pellets on the second day. Simply open the top of the stove and add the pellets from the bucket next to stove. In the warmer months the cabin is cooled by an evaporative cooling unit (swamp cooler) that is mounted on the roof. It forces a large amount of air through the cabin and can only work if a window or two in the front room are left about halfway open during its operation. If all the windows and doors are all closed the evaporative cooling unit will not have any effect. Guests have access to the cabin and outside areas around the perimeter. We live in a separate house above the cabin on the hillside. Guests have plenty of privacy yet we are able to easily monitor number of cars and outside noise levels. Number of cars should never exceed number of registered guests. We are happy to host your film/photo/video shoot! Our location rates are available upon request. If you're thinking about pulling a fast one by sneaking in unauthorized guests or pets, having a party, or unauthorized photo/film/video shoot now is the time to look for a different listing. Again, our house overlooks the cabin so extra cars and guests will not go unnoticed by us. We are happy to answer any questions you may have during your stay. Our cabin is located very close to the hub of activity for shopping and going out on the town for food and entertainment. Old Town Yucca is about one mile down the road and offers up a handful of the best antique shops, vintage and fashion boutiques in the area, as well as coffee shops and mom and pop style restaurants. Pioneertown is 2 miles up the road and the home of the famous Pappy and Harriets Bar and Restaurant where you can experience the unforgettable Santa Maria BBQ and some of the best bands of the past and present. Red Dog Saloon has delicious tacos and craft cocktails as well as live entertainment on some nights. Down in Yucca you'll find The Tiny Pony for Tuesday evening karaoke and a yummy bar menu. Desierto Alto has a wide selection of wine, liquor and grab-go food. Frontier Coffee House is about a mile down the road in the center of Old Town Yucca. They dish out some of the best BLT's and sophisticated egg sandwiches (veg option) your palette could ever yearn for, and serve the finest local Joshua Tree Coffee. They have a beer and wine license and a couple nights a week they offer live music. If you'd like to venture a little bit further take a short ride down Hwy 62 to the Joshua Tree Saloon where you'll get a taste of the local talent and yummy bar fare. Cedar and Sage - Yoga and Sound Baths in Old Yucca. The End - A vintage-eclectic blend of clothing, chic housewares, jewelry and hand picked second hand fashion. The Hoof and Horn - Vintage and new western style fashion. Pioneertown Crossing - A great selection of antiques! Blooming Gypsy - Flowers and vintage items Art FX and Furnishings has an amazing selection of local art and gifts. The place is full of desert gems. Now for hiking..! There are plenty of special areas to hike very close to the cabin depending our your level. Just a short walk across Pioneertown Rd will bring you to the base of Water Canyon where you can walk up the wash along the base of the Sawtooth Mountain Range. If you'd like to explore further please check out this site for information on Joshua Tree National Park and The Pioneertown Mountain Preserve. To catch a glimpse of the deserts creative visionaries visit the sculpture site of the famous Noah Purifoy and The Integratron for architecture and sound baths (sound baths are by appointment only). Enjoy! Once you've made it to Sandy Way follow the signs and arrows to our parking area below the cabin. We are 2.3 miles from Pioneertown and Pappy and Harriet's. Though it's just a short distance, we do not recommend walking to Pappy and Harriett's from the cabin. Pioneertown road has no shoulder or safe place to walk alongside traffic going 55 miles per hour. Airports: There are several airports to fly into when visiting Joshua Tree/ Yucca Valley, but they all require renting a car. Palm Springs, CA (PSP) – 45 minutes Ontario, CA (ONT) – 1 hour 30 minutes Orange County, CA (JWA) – 2 hours Long Beach, CA (LGB) – 2 hours 15 minutes Los Angeles, CA (LAX) – 2 hours 25 minutes San Diego, CA (SAN) – 2 hours 35 minutes Las Vegas, CA (LAS) – 3 hours 35 minutes Regarding the deep sand road that is Sandy Way leading to the Cabin. We DO NOT recommend arriving on a full size MOTORCYCLE as you will have problems riding through the deep sand. All other cars will most likely be just fine. Sandy Way is only a couple hundred feet long but for heavy motorcycles it is very difficult to stay upright in the loose sand. During periods of especially heavy rain Sandy Way can get washed out completely and become impassable by any vehicle but in the 13 years we've lived in the area this has only happened once. If this does happen we are equipped with a tractor and a 4 wheel drive truck.
