A short hop from Kathmandu city to recharge and rejuvenate! Experience what it’s like to stay on a forest hill top, on a peaceful Nepali style earthbag attic house. Rejuvenate yourself on the scenic deck ontop of a maturing food forest. From forest bathing, to hiking/cycling on top the southern valley ridge, the locality offers so much for nature lovers. Alternatively, a place also to simply laze around and unwind. Transportation can be arranged to pick guests from nearby Godawari highway. Kot Gaun (or Kot Danda), situated at around 1600 meters is located in Godavari, on the Southern outskirts of Kathmandu valley. The village stands above a hill full of Salla and Schima wallichii trees and is home to various birds and species. A hilltop village, Kot Gaun is near Godavari and can be reached from the Godavari highway, taking a split road from Badegoun going to Godamchaur. Kot Gaun is blessed with a breathtaking location with a panoramic view of Kathmandu valley and the Himalayan Range. The area is home to the traditional Kot Ghar (from where it got its name), multiple caves, and lush forests. With Lamatar and Lakuri Bhanjyang at the Northeast and Phulchowki at the Southeast anyone visiting will be captivated by Kot Dada. There are about 150 households in Kot Dada with a variety of caste and ethnic groups living harmoniously together. Subsistence agriculture is the major way of life in Kot Dada. A hidden gem with so much potential for domestic and international tourism, including adventure tourism, Kot Gaun is yet to see tourists come and enjoy its breathtaking locality and views. Only 10 kilometers away from Satdobato Ringroad, Kot holds the potential as being the nearest destination for people who would want to escape the hustle and bustle of urban Kathmandu. There are no public transportation in Kot Dada. In addition to walking, one can use motorcycles or mountain bikes to get around. Our property is located on the southeastern side of Kot Danda, just below a small trail. In order to explore Kot, you can walk up to the trail from the house and take left or right. I’d suggest the left road going towards a small community church. From there you could walk uphill, where there are open areas to witness the Himalayas (on a clear day) and the sprawling Kathmandu city. Sunsets and night view of Kathmandu city are absolutely amazing! You could then walk straight through the village (on the hilltop) following the satellite/telephone towers. Here you will also find small shops. Walking north through the village will take you to the main road (the road linking Kot to Bishankhunarayan and Godawari). Keep walking north towards old Kot village and after 400 meters or so, you will enter into a forested area (there’s also a meditation center there [locals call it Dhyan kendra] with wonderful views of the Godawari hills, including the nearby Fulchowki (the highest hill of Kathmandu valley). For guests interested in booking between June to August, please be informed that this is also an active monsoon in South Asia. Monsoon usually arrives around 2nd week of June and continues until August. Early September is still a wet period, however, the monsoon will have weakened by then. Our master bedroom is on a top loft, which has a lowered attic like ceiling. The roof is made out of corrugated zinc metal. So when the rains come down hard, there will be a loud sound of rains coming against the metal roof. Some guests love the sound of if, however, for some it can be bit annoying. So, kindly consider this if you are interested in booking during monsoon period. We also have 2 single beds on the ground floor, if heavy downpours disturb your sleep. Monsoon rains aren't a 'rain all day, all night' affair, however, it will be frequent. This is also a period where everything is green, and beautiful, in its own ways.
