Description

We offer a place like no other. The Mamaku Roost is a large, unique, private & peaceful oasis with easy access/parking in a semi rural setting (but super handy location) 5 minute drive to town, train & beach. Art, antiques, original wooden floors, log burner, double glazing/curtains, modern hot shower, heated blankets, kitchenette, fast wifi, black out curtains. Outside has a covered patio, outdoor fire/furniture, fountain, native bush, farm, garden, beehives, friendly animals. Guests say WOW. The space Our place has an interesting history. The land was used as a rifle range in WW2. The Gun Emplacement & Lookout are directly above the property (155 steps public access from Richmond Road). Built in the late 1950s originally as the Centennial Community Hall, then - the Cobden Kohinoor Rugby League Club, the place to be on Sunday. New owners put sheep in. The next owners converted the hall to a dwelling, which we now call home. We opened our Airbnb in October 2022 creating a new history for our guests and so it continues! Situated at the base of the Rapahoe Ranges (also known as 12 Apostles Ranges) in Cobden. We have a lush bush backdrop, a private patio with all day sun only a 5 minute drive to town and the Tranz Alpine train station. We have sheep, bantams, Roger the rooster, two doggies (who love to say hi) Laura, Miss Piggy is the star of the show. Children love it here, it's a great place for them, large spaces inside and out, they are free to run around to their hearts content. The animals provide the most joy for little people. We have modern appliances in the kitchenette, walk in tiled shower. Gas heated water, original native timber floors, free standing fire place and heaters, heated blankets on the big beds, a well stocked library, plenty of parking and space. A very unique dwelling, with interesting decor. Situated in a convenient peaceful location. A great base to explore all the region has to offer or a peaceful location to rest for your next day of road tripping! Guest access Last driveway on the left hand side, hard left at the LAST lamp post/power pole! You should see the number on the fence and our sign on the side of the building (drive towards the bird bath). You can't see the farm until you drive in. It's a gravel driveway that opens up to the large parking area in front of house and entrance. There is ample parking and a luggage ramp that leads to the front door (hallway entrance) and the double doors (guest master bedroom). This is the easiest place to unload your luggage. Upon arrival we would suggest parking by the ramp and entering through the single door next to the key safe. Have a look through before unloading. If you are a group it might be easier and quicker for you to put your luggage directly into the room you will be using. If you are a couple you can load your luggage directly into the master bedroom. All rooms are available for your use, we never share bookings, because it is such a large space sometimes guests get confused and think it is shared - it is not! Once you have checked in and know your way around you are free to park anywhere in front of the accomodation that suits you. The key works on the front door and the master bedroom door. The big room needs to be locked from inside. Other things to note We offer 3 beds. This would suit traveling couples or friends. Nightly price is for 2 people, any extras $50pp. Guest parking is in front of the guest entrance, by the concrete luggage ramp. There is a tiled walk in shower, a mat is kept in the bathroom cupboard if you need it. Hair dryer in the top drawer. Please turn the heater on while showering to reduce the steam and opening the bathroom window will help too - Thank you. There are black out curtains in the master bedroom. There are blackout curtains in the big room and a privacy screen. Please don't place items on top of the fireplace, if you need assistance with the fire we are happy to help. Clothes drying rack in the hall cupboard. Light switches for the hall are located in the big room on the wall and the front door entrance. Patio light is at the front door. Power Points to charge devices behind red sofa and there is one on the wall behind single bed in the big room. Double power points behind the door in the master bedroom, also beside the desk and bedsides. The wifi is fast. The kitchenette: PLEASE OPEN WiNDOWs if you are cooking. There is no extractor fan. Please note that our kitchenette does not have a traditional cooktop stove/oven. We have a microwave, a Breville toast n roast bench top oven & a plug-in hot plate/element located in the bottom drawer. There is a toaster, an electric kettle, a sandwich press, coffee press & grinder. If you are cooking please open the window. Chopping boards & extra cooking utensils in the skinny cupboard next to the fridge. There is no freezer, guest's can use the hosts freezer if needed, for ice packs, coolie bags etc. New Zealand Neon sign above fridge - please turn all lights off if you are out & about - thank you! Also if you leave lights on at night with windows open, bugs and moths are likely to join you in the BNB! Rubbish, recycle bins under sink in the cupboard. There is a fire extinguisher behind the door inside the kitchenette. Rainy day games in hall cabinet. Library in the master bedroom. There are fan heaters in the hallway & master bedroom which you are welcome to use. We have a cot if you are traveling with an infant. Just let us know in advance and we can set it up for you. Ours is a great space for little people, heaps of room inside and out. Children absolutely love the animals and the space to run around. It's not expected but if you do have an estimated time of arrival, it's helpful to know .. so the doggies don't need to be secured unnecessarily. Thank you for your consideration! Please lock up and turn lights and heaters off if you are out all day. Thank you. Please, under no circumstances are EV vehicles or hybrid vehicles to be charged at our address - Thank you. Check out is 10:00am. Please leave key in lock box. We don't charge a cleaning fee so please don't leave a mess.
