Description
Tucked behind award winning Forest Walks Lodge, this secret little cottage was originally & romantically named The Chalet. Set on the edge of World Heritage rainforest, this nature based accommodation whilst low impact, is cute, cosy and comfortable. Small quiet well behaved dogs welcome in a fenced area. You will enjoy the sound of silence and relish being surrounded by birds and animals. An incredible World Heritage rainforest walk starts on your doorstep plus many others, a short drive away. The space For an almost totally exclusive nature experience, the Secret Forest Cabin is for you! The cabin is small and sweet, however we have done our best to provide everything you'll need for a relaxing & comfortable stay. We have aimed for a natural, organic, plastic free home and we are open to your suggestions so as to continually improve the experience. There are plenty of books and guides to local walks and other information. There is a gas stove and a toaster but you can tune in to the sounds of nature and use the barbecue instead. It's all about simple living here! Your upstairs bedroom has large windows to enjoy forest views and is accessed via a narrow winding staircase. Once up there, the room is very spacious. The bathroom and toilet are across the deck from the cabin. There are night lights to guide you in the dark. Guest access You will have the whole cabin to yourself but assistance is available from the host nearby at Forest Walks Lodge. Guided walks by our local ecologist can be arranged with advance notice. There is satellite wifi in the cabin and phone access using the internet through Telstra wifi calling which you may need to turn on. If you are bringing your small dog it will have to be on a lead outside the fenced area because of the wildlife. Outside the cabin you will regularly see wallabies, pademelons, echidnas, fairy wrens, wedge tailed eagles and much more. Listen for the sound of owls in the night or go on a night walk to see a wombat. The cabin is an easy day trip to Cradle Mountain and the Tamar Valey wine route. It's a 1 hour drive from Launceston and Devonport/Spirit of Tasmania, 20 minutes from Deloraine which has plenty of shops, galleries, etc, 10 minutes from Meander which has the closest petrol (not diesel), post office, cafe and general store for basics. There is a trout stream on the property. You are VERY welcome to drop in a line and catch yourself a feed. Several good fishing spots are within a few minutes walk either side of the cabin. You can see the trout easily but as the saying goes, if you can see them, they can see you! Be quiet and sneak up and you could catch one on the first flick. Other things to note Continental self serve breakfast is provided including bread & fresh milk. There are also delicious, mostly local and organic pantry items available for you to use. Feel free to leave anything you don't need for the next guest. We love our revolving pantry system. Our wifi is through a satellite so please activate wifi calling before arrival. It's not NBN, it's not super fast, but it's available. Mostly! There is no TV. We recommend downloading something before arriving as there is no Telstra service between here and Meander. Better still, turn off and tune out to the sounds of nature! The bathhouse is across the deck separate to the main cabin. The toilet is a rota-loo composting toilet, so the no water variety. Use as per provided instructions. Cabin heating and hot water are by instant gas. If the hot water runs out, switch bottles over (behind the bathhouse). If you don't understand, please ask on arrival and you will be shown. There is firewood for the firepit where you are welcome to sit and contemplate the flames except on Total Fireban Days or in windy weather. Watch the sunset or wonder at the starry skies free from light pollution. And don't go to bed leaving an untended fire obviously. Should you want to visit us with your SMALL, quiet, furry friend, please contact us for pre approval. The rear fence is only 60cm high so big or jumping dogs are not suitable at this property sorry.
