Named in honor of Joy’s mother, Dottie, this space celebrates the heart of family. Grandma Dottie projects warmth, kindness, and quiet strength. Dottie has lived all over the world, but today she calls Kernersville, North Carolina home, where she shares life with her beloved baby dog, Fred, an almost 100-pound German shepherd-poodle mix with a gentle soul and big personality. Dottie is a master gardener, an active volunteer at the Shepherd’s Center, and keeps her "grandma skills" sharp by helping in her church nursery on Sundays. She also leads a Bible study group and is known by all who meet her as a steady, joyful force of goodness wherever she goes. Dottie is also a Superhost, and shares a private room in her home called Quiet in Kernersville, which reflects that same grace, care and qualities that inspired this very room. Here in Greensboro, Grandma Dottie’s Room continues that legacy of love and hospitality. Guests are welcomed into our shared Idlewood/Midtown neighborhood home, where genuine care meets modern comfort. 🏡 The Space Comfort and Rest: Relax on a queen-size memory foam bed dressed in high-thread-count 100% cotton sheets. Room-darkening curtains provide a restful atmosphere for peaceful sleep. Workspace and Convenience: A small desk with task lighting, and outlets, offers space to work or reflect. A mini-fridge and microwave make it easy to store snacks or enjoy simple meals (Deep Roots has a great Hot Bar and Salad Bar). Cleaning and Storage: A vacuum is provided for your use, and a spacious closet keeps belongings neatly organized. Bathroom: You’ll have direct bedroom access to a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, shared only with Mamaw Uschie’s Room, featuring a curved glass shower, pedestal sink, and travel-size toiletries for comfort. 🐾 Pet Policy We love animals and welcome them thoughtfully. Please read carefully before booking: • Two-pet maximum. This space is cozy, and more than two pets can overwhelm it and make cleaning between guests difficult. • List all pets in your booking request so we can prepare accordingly. • Pets are not allowed on furniture or bedding. • Guests traveling with cats must share their litter setup and containment plan before booking and confirm measures are in place to prevent clawing or spraying. • Pick up all outdoor waste and report any accidents or damage right away. Please direct pets to mulched areas as urine burns the grass. • Unregistered pets, excessive shedding, or damage beyond normal cleaning may result in additional charges through Airbnb's Resolution Center. We clean exclusively with professionals from Simply Organized and Clean, who use eco-friendly, non-toxic products that are safe for pets, people, and the planet. 🛏 Linen Care and Damage Fees Our linens are high-thread-count 100 percent cotton, washed with gentle unscented detergent to keep them soft and allergen free. If linens or towels are permanently stained or damaged, the following fees apply: • 25 dollars per bath towel • 100 dollars per sheet set • Quilt or duvet cover TBD Guests are notified of any charges before they are submitted through Airbnb's Resolution Center. 🚽 Flushing Policy Only toilet paper and natural waste should be flushed. Plumbing repairs caused by misuse are billed between 100 and 500 dollars. 🧺 Laundry Guests staying 28 nights or more may do one load of laundry with our low-fragrance detergent. We live downstairs and host guests in two upstairs bedrooms—Grandma Dottie’s Room and Mamaw Uschie’s Room—available individually or together as “Your Moms.” Enter through our distinctive pink front door and head upstairs: Dottie’s on the left, Uschie’s on the right. The upstairs was fully remodeled in 2021 with noise-dampening insulation, new windows, flooring, bathroom, and built-in desks. Located in the Idlewood neighborhood near Cone Hospital, UNCG, and Downtown Greensboro, we also offer whole-house rentals at Library of Ivy & Ellie, Sisters, Hunsucker’s Place, and the Urban Birdhouse. We’re a small, local non-corporate business passionate about community and supporting Guilford County students. Other things to note We love sharing our home and want you to feel comfortable during your stay. Coffee is often available when we’re in town and have brewed a pot, though it isn’t always guaranteed. Luckily, there are wonderful coffee shops nearby: Delicious Bakery & Café is the closest, and we also love Union Coffee, Northern Roots, Awoo, and Deep Roots Market—our local co-op with excellent coffee, a hot bar, salad bar, and deli offering healthy, locally sourced meals. Each room includes a mini-fridge and microwave, but please note the stove and oven are not available. Guests staying 28+ days are welcome to do one load of laundry with our low-fragrance detergent (24 hours’ notice needed).
