Description

Live a beautiful rural life. Your blood pressure will drop entering the driveway of this unique home perched on pillars above Canoe Brook and surrounded by trees. A Vermont retreat, artistically appointed and naturally landscaped. The Octagon is its own self-contained unit connected to our house. The forest, with trails is right out the back door, miles of hiking, Nordic skiing, and biking. Short drive to the village, Putney, and within 1 hour of 4 ski mountains. Perfect Four Season getaway. The space We are the first driveway where the gravel road begins. a beautiful spot tucked away from the road where we live with our two kids, dog, and two cats (animals will be outside or in the main house--not in the Octagon). The Octagon is attached to our main house (you can see in the pictures). The "mudroom" that serves as an entrance to the Octagon is shared, and there is a separate exterior door to the Octagon that keeps it private. The space is cozy, best for a couple (or single) but there's a couch and an air mattress that you can use to fit up to 4. The bed in the pictures is King Size and has a new organic Birch mattress. This is a great place for artists, writers, creatives, or anyone looking to slow down. It’s kind of like a Nordic style wooden yurt-like structure that is perched overlooking the forest. Full of unusual artifacts. An emporium obscura. Now, it’s not attached to trees, but that sitting window in the pictures is about 12 feet off the ground and looks out through the tops of trees to the ravine and creek below. There is not a full kitchen. We do have a kettle, toaster, mini fridge, French press, pour over…and a grinder. We will even leave you some fresh organic and fair trade coffee beans. If coffee isn’t your jam, there’s an eclectic selection of teas. There are dishes. There is NO TV in the Octagon, however it does have reliable internet. There is a pull-down screen and a projector if you have a compatible device that can connect to a USB-C/HDMI cord that’s available. We should note that you are in an open space, the bathroom is separated by a curtain, there’s not a shower—only a clawfoot tub to soak in. We have several small buildings on the property--a barn, an office/studio space, the main house, the Octagon, and our little wood-fired sauna. Of these buildings, this Airbnb rental only provides access to the Octagon and mud room—and the surrounding miles and miles of trails, forest, and gravel roads. Sauna can be fired up for you (only available if we are around) for an extra fee of $150. Sauna can fit a max of 4 people. Guest access You'll have a designated parking spot at the top of the drive and can use the lower lot for dropping off and getting situated. You're welcome to explore any of the outdoor space, have a fire in the fire pit, or hike the trails. The mud room is shared but we will generally not be through there during your stay. The sauna is only available if Aaron is around and for a fee of $150 (its wood-fired and a little finicky--but still gets up to 170F).
