Wolf Den | Cedar Cabin for Two + Wood-Fired Tub

A handcrafted, Walden-inspired tiny cedar cabin with a wood-fired soaking tub, tucked into four acres of PNW forest on Vashon Island. The Wolf Den is a short ferry ride across the Salish Sea from Seattle or Tacoma, then a 20 minute drive from the dock. Made for couples or solo travelers, it’s a secluded base for exploring the island’s trails, beaches, and local spots. Wake to birdsong under the firs, then end the day in the soaking tub and let the calm rhythm of island life rejuvenate you. The space Welcome to The Wolf Den! A black cedar cabin on the edge of our 4-acre property, reached by a short woodland trail. A privacy fence and a small orchard separate it from the main house. Cathedral ceilings make the small space feel open, and the living room looks out on towering firs, madronas, and big leaf maples. The cabin is secluded, yet close to Vashon’s shops and eateries. Getting Here: Vashon is ferry-only, and that’s by design. Stepping off the boat feels like stepping into a slower, simpler time. Take the ferry from Fauntleroy in West Seattle or Point Defiance in Tacoma, then it’s a 10 to 20 minute drive through forested roads to the cabin. Kitchenette: Mini-fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and French press. An electric BBQ grill is available on the side deck. Welcome Extras: Bagged teas, local coffee, and homemade scones baked fresh for your arrival. Sleeping Loft: A center standing-height loft reached by a sliding library ladder, with a full-sized bed and high-quality linens. Open the skylight for fresh air, and fall asleep to rain on the metal roof. Bathroom: Loomia Turkish cotton towels and quality bath essentials. Forgot something? Just ask. Goodland Wood-Fired Soaking Tub (September through June): The Goodland is a guest-powered, wood-fired hot tub fueled by fallen timber from the property. Heating it up yourself is part of the experience. Getting it up to soaking temperature takes about two hours the first time, and there’s something genuinely satisfying about stoking the fire. Never tended a fire? No problem. We provide detailed instructions and a how-to video, and we’re available for questions. The tub is drained and cleaned between every guest and never treated with chemicals, so the water is always fresh. In the rare event of a burn ban during our open season, the tub may be limited to a cold plunge, and we’ll be in touch ahead of time. Front Deck: Start your morning here with coffee, birdsong, and maybe a visit from our resident barred owl, Hooty, or the deer that wander the property. It’s also a great spot to enjoy takeout from one of Vashon’s many local restaurants. Hammock: In summer, a two-person hammock is tucked under the trees behind the cabin. Need more space? Please note: Our cabin retreat is not suitable for children or infants. Guest access You have access to the trails from the parking area to the cabin, the open area out front, and the little magical forested area behind it. We live in the main house, a good distance away, and will respect your privacy. We ask that you keep to these areas. Other things to note The Wolf Den sleeps 2 guests maximum, with on-site parking for one vehicle. No children, smoking, pets, or parties. Loft Access The sleeping loft is reached by a tall sliding library ladder. It has full 6-foot standing height at the center, with tapered ceilings toward the edges. Please review the listing photos before booking to make sure it’s the right fit. Natural Light The loft skylight lets in plenty of morning light. If you’re a light sleeper, bring a sleep mask. Hot Tub The Goodland is wood-fired September through June, except during Washington state or county burn bans. In July and August, and during a level 2 burn ban, it is available as a cold plunge only. The firebox is stocked with kindling and paper on arrival. Each 2-night stay includes enough firewood for one full soak, and possibly a reheat the next morning depending on outside temperatures. Additional firewood is $20. Water A whole-house filter provides great-tasting water, no additional filtration needed. Traveling Without a Car? The cabin is about 7 miles from both ferry terminals, 2 miles from the nearest bus stop, and 3 miles from the town center. Uber and Lyft aren’t always reliable on the island, so please arrange transportation in advance with Vashon’s local ride service to avoid being stranded at the ferry. Contact us for details.
