Modeled after the 1970s series “Little House on the Prairie,” the house is nestled in the oak grove on 32 acres of land. The space is a great room with a bed that may be partitioned off with a curtain, a sleeping loft, wood burning fireplace, full kitchen, a clawfoot tub that looks out into the oaks, and a private outdoor eating area. Enjoy a rustic living experience in San Diego! 30 min to the PCT trailhead, 15 mins to Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel and Restaurant The land is a unique mix of high desert, oak woodland and granite boulder. The 32 acres are fenced with a walking trail meandering around the property. We have three fenced gardens where we grow medicinal herbs, fruit trees, and perennials. Great bird watching, especially near the natural swimming pool, hare and cottontail rabbit, and the occasional coyote sighting. During the new moon, star gazing is phenomenal or full moon night walks could lend a surreal, dreamlike feeling to your stay. Guests will have access to the 32 acres, except for the fenced gardens, which we ask that you enter only with a guide. Reach out to us-we enjoy talking about the gardens! Depending on weather, we are usually outdoors playing with our kids or working in the gardens. Feel free to find us for a chat or keep your privacy! We (sisters Leona and Alanna) are land stewards, constantly aligning the ways we work with the Earth with our growing reclamation of our ancestral and indigenous roots. We are working towards embodying reciprocity and walking in the ceremony of life as we tend to the land. We believe in the beauty of community and how we can grow through respectful communication and being with each other mindfully in a shared space. We love talking about gardening, homesteading, cooking, and foraging Boulevard is a small town with a convenience store and gas station, post office, and a tack and feed store. There is only one restaurant in the town, Matthews at Live Oaks, and a delicious hand made candy store that has been in business since the 1920s-The Candy Cottage. Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel in the town of Jacumba Hot Springs has day passes (hopefully opening by Nov 2023) available for soaking in their mineral spring pools (adults only). They also have a bar and delicious organic restaurant with live music on weekends. The restaurant is family and dog friendly. Jacumba Hot Springs and the Jacumba Lake are 15 minutes away; Campo and the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum and local wineries are 30 minutes away; Mt Laguna and Cleveland National Forest with beautiful hiking is 30 minutes away; Pine Valley is 20 minutes away; PCT trailhead is 30 mins away. You can ride a bicycle into Boulevard, the town is only a 5-10 minute bike ride away. However, everything else is only accessible by car. This is a working farm and our home. You may hear tractors driving, power drills, chainsaws, dogs barking, and kids playing. Also, from Spring to Fall the frogs are singing in the pond! There is a swamp cooler available for summer months. Windows must be cracked in order for the swamp cooler to work properly. Heating in the winter is by wood stove. If it is very cold, we will start the fire before your stay. Please let us know if you need assistance during your stay with starting and maintaining the fire or if you need a space heater. Stairway to the loft is more like a ladder than stairs, very shallow and steep steps. Grip tape and a railing are provided for safety, but please use caution when going up and down. Please note: check-in before dark highly recommended. It gets dark out here with no street lamps. Please be mindful to follow our directions correctly so that you don’t enter one of our neighbor's properties. Please turn off swamp cooler of space heater (if used) if you are not in the space. Please turn off the outside lights before going to bed for the night. Please communicate before inviting extra guests to the space.
