Description
A double bedroom for 2 guests - cot available for under 2s - on the first floor. Sole use of WC next to the room and a private bathroom downstairs. Slippers and robes are provided free of charge as you have to walk through the house. There is a dedicated sitting area on the landing with views of the large garden. A wide range of teas and coffees are available in the room. Free Wi-Fi. A delicious continental breakfast is included and taken in the dining room, which dates back to 1620. The space The village of Puriton was listed in the Doomsday book and at one time belonged to the estate of Catherine Parr- the sixth wife of HenryVIII. Ours is one of the oldest properties in the village dating back to 1620 and was built from local Blue Lyas stone. Although enlarged and renovated over the centuries, the house retains many of the original features. The double bed has an orthopaedic mattress and Egyptian cotton linen. There are 2 bedside tables, a wardrobe, tea and coffee making facilities, WI-FI, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and mirror. The sitting area on the landing outside the room has 2 Italian leather chairs and a small table, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind overlooking the mature garden. The WC next to the room has a toilet and small hand basin and features the exposed stone of the exterior wall of the original house. The large bathroom is downstairs and robes and slippers are available free of charge as guests have to walk through the house to reach the bathroom. The bathroom has a bath and separate powerful shower. There is a WC and hand basin, and an illuminated mirror with electric shaving point. There is an interior door bolt on the door. The central lounge has a large inglenook fireplace with log burner and comfortable leather sofas. There is a large, flat screen TV. Books, jigsaws and games are available for guests on the landing. The dining room is in the original part of the house and has a fireplace built from the local Blue Lyas stone and has a log burner. This is where you will enjoy the continental breakfast included in your stay. The breakfast consists of fruit juices, a range of teas and coffees, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereals, croissants, toast and jams. We cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, and provide a choice of oat or soya milk and spreads as well as dairy. Please inform us of any dietary requirements and we will do our very best to accommodate them. Amanda will send a request for this information shortly after receiving your booking. Access to the kitchen and laundry room is by arrangement with Amanda. The mature garden has a variety of sitting and dining areas. Off-road parking is available on-site for 1 vehicle per booking. The village has a pub which serves food Tuesdays - Sundays until 8pm. There is also a Post Office, butcher’s and Hairdresser. A fish and chip van stops in the village on Friday evenings and many guests enjoy eating their dinner in our garden. Glastonbury is 13.5 miles away and the cathedral cities of Bath and Wells are approximately one hour’s drive. The seaside resorts of Burnham -On-Sea and Weston -Super-Mare are within easy access. The Quantocks and the Mendips are a short drive away with access to many walks and sites including Cheddar Caves and Wookey-Hole. Exmoor’s National Park is approximately an hour’s drive. There is an extremely limited bus service to the village but direct buses are available to Wells and Bristol from the stop by the village butcher’s. There are 2 heritage railways within Somerset one based in Minehead and the other near Shelton Mallett. Haynes Motor Museum and The Fleet Air Arm Museum are about 90 minutes drive from the property. Several National Trust, English Heritage and Historic Houses properties are nearby. Somerset is famous for its cider and there are several cider farms in the vicinity including Rich’s Cider, Thatchers and Sheppey’s. They have tours and shops. Clarks Village and Cribbs Causeway are half an hour’s drive providing plenty of opportunities for retail therapy. Bristol Airport is less than an hour away and we are happy to arrange early departures and late arrivals to facilitate flight schedules. Guest access On arrival please go to the central white door with the old fashioned door-pull bell. Guests have access to the facilities listed for their room as well as the lounge. The dining area is available at breakfast time which is served between 7am and 9.30am. Access to the kitchen and laundry room is available by prior arrangement with Amanda. Guests are welcome to use the sitting and dining areas in the garden and if they wish to are welcome to meet and play with Rosie our exuberant border collie! During your stay I prefer to meet and greet our guests so I can explain the facilities and access arrangements. However on exceptions there is a Key-Safe and instructions will be sent to you if this is necessary. There are 2 bookable rooms and there is enough space for privacy in the garden and within the house unless guests are using the shared lounge and dining room, when you may meet up with the other guests. Amanda and Ray have their own private area. Other things to note There is a dog living on the property, so this accommodation is not suitable for people who are allergic to animals. Rosie is an exuberant border collie and always delighted to make friends with guests who wish to meet her, but she does not stay in the guest accommodation areas. As this is an old property doorways are low, so please be mindful as you move around. Access to the bedroom is by stairs so this property is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Smoking and vaping is not permitted indoors or outdoors. Please be mindful of other guests and after 10pm this is a quiet house. Please be aware this is a working household with its own routines and while we always try to accommodate guests’ requests on longer stays, it is not always possible.
