Products of this nature corrode the pipes and can cause pinhole leaks. Always call a licensed plumber with high-rise plumbing experience to snake the pipes and clear out the lines. It is advised to have a plumber snake the pipes within your unit on an annual basis as preventative maintenance. Some recommended plumbers are provided for your reference below. NEVER PUT THIS DOWN YOUR DRAIN OR GARBAGE DISPOSAL · Animal fat or grease (aka drippings). · Cooking oil, butter, margarine, lard, shortening, gravy, sauces, sour cream, mayonnaise, oil from cooked meats, eggshells, vegetable peels, etc. These all build up in the pipes and cause clogs. · Coffee grounds or plant material (leaves, petals, stems). · "Drain-clearing" chemicals – licensed plumbers do not advise using these products ever. HOW TO SAVE YOUR DRAINS (AND EVERYONE ELSE’S) Step 1: Throw away as much food scraps as possible into the trash can. Step 2: Use paper towels to wipe greasy dishes before dishwashing. Step 3: Use sink strainers to catch food waste during washing. Step 4: Pour fats, oils, and grease into a container and store in the freezer, then put it into the trash after it has hardened. Step 5: After using the garbage disposal run scorching hot water for at least 30 seconds to fully lubricate the drain. If you experience an active back-up, call a plumber immediately.
