As an eco-responsible inn, we have chosen to take advantage of the natural cooling elements of our architecture and location, and not have air-conditioning in any of the rooms at Villa Madu and The Nest. Most of our guests love this, as it complements their focus on health, and connecting with the breath, body and nature, and keeps them coming back. Ubud’s higher elevation and cooler climate often takes people by surprise. Our rooms are designed with high ceilings, and open living spaces using traditional techniques to stay cool. All rooms have fans. After a day or two without the constant hum of A/C, guests often talk about how peaceful and calming and it feels, and many people ask for extra blankets at night! Guest access The yoga shala / exercise or meditation pavilion / party and banquet hall, located on our adjoining property, Villa Madu, offers a tranquil space made with sustainable materials: recycled ironwood floors, coconut wood pillars and beams, and a grass roof that creates a cool, airy environment. Open on all sides, the shala blends seamlessly with the surrounding jungle, allowing guests to enjoy the natural breeze and sounds. There is an outbuilding next to it with a toilet, sink, and shower. The shala is free for personal use by appointment, or can be rented for group events, parties, or weddings at an hourly or daily rate. Electric fans provided in each room ensure a comfortable environment without the need for artificial and noisy air conditioning. A refreshing dip in the pool provides extra cooling during warmer days. As part of this tropical environment, it is normal to encounter small geckos and lizards inside the cabins.
