Fully-renovated English basement apartment w/ private entrance in 1910 row house. Large open kitchen/living/dining room, + 1 bedroom/bath. Comfy bed + memory foam sofabed, crisp white sheets, down comforters/pillows, washer-dryer, 2 TVs, cable, extra-fast wifi. Modern furnishings, new appliances, uncluttered and super clean. Located in central DC in the hot Shaw neighborhood. Walk to restaurants, nightlife, DC convention center and downtown. Quick access to DC sights, Metro, bus, bikes+ Welcome to your private getaway in the little known neighborhood of Truxton Circle. Located within the happening neighborhood of Shaw in the heart of Washington, DC, you will enjoy quick and easy access to all that the city has to offer. Although we are relatively new to AirBnB, as avid travelers and one-time BnB hosts years ago, we set out to create a space that is comfortable, pleasing to the senses, and equipped with the kinds of things that we ourselves like to enjoy when we travel for work or for pleasure, including quality bedding, private laundry facilities, and furnishing that don't all come from Sweden. (OK, we may have let one piece sneak in!) The 800 sq ft (73 sq m) apartment is an English basement that feels like a home. The apartment is completely private with it's own private entrance, but we live upstairs so you get the kind of extra care found with AirBnB properties that are owner occupied. Stuff You Will Love: SUPER FAST WIFI: Zip around the internet on ultra high speed internet that works at 70-170 mbps. Great for business travelers, Facetime or S.K.Y.P.E. calls, and streaming Netflix/video. GOOD SLEEPING: Sleep is important, and to help you be as comfortable as possible you’ll enjoy a queen-size bed, or the memory foam sofa bed we acquired from Spain that our houseguests rave about. Plus, crisp white sheets, lightweight and warm down comforters, down pillows and memory foam pillows. TV/CABLE CHOICES: The living room sports a 50” flat screen with 100+ channels of cable TV, HBO, Showtime and more. Using Apple TV you can also stream Netflix or rent/buy movies from iTunes. There is a wall-mounted flat screen TV in the bedroom, as well, fully loaded with the same cable channels. KITCHEN: The kitchen has been planned for efficiency. There is not a full stove, instead you will find an induction stovetop that boils water in 90 seconds, and in elegant, heavy stainless steel pots and pans by Henckels. The microwave is also a convection oven, so you can microwave something from the frozen section or bake a cake. There’s a dishwasher and full size refrigerator with ice maker. For hot beverages, choose between a French press, a drip coffee machine with timer, or an electric kettle to make a quick cup of tea. FARMERS’ MARKET: The Bloomingdale Farmer’s Market on Sunday is a block away and features farm fresh veggies and wonderful vendors selling various things. Please note that the fresh pasta and handmade burratta are pretty much life changing. PARKING: There is free parking on our street. No permit is required and there is no time limit (there are restrictions for street cleaning). You can usually find a spot right in front of the house, or within a block. From the street, you will use a private entrance to your apartment. You need to be able to navigate a few steps of stairs to enter and exit. We will greet you and provide keys if we can. There is a lockbox in case you are arriving at a time when we cannot meet you. The main lock and key are high-security and cannot be copied, so you can rest assured that there are no random copies of keys floating around. There is an internal staircase that connects the main house to the apartment, but the door is alarmed and only used as an emergency exit for you. Your privacy is ensured and respected at all times. It is up to you! We are fine to leave you be, or be helpful if we can to provide recommendations. We moved to Washington in the late 80s. Except for a seven-year stint in London, Washington has been our home ever since. We look forward to sharing whatever we can tell you about the city and look forward to meeting our guests. Less than 10 minutes by foot: -- Shaw Metro Station (Yellow and Green lines) -- Red Hen, a top DC restaurant (long reserve time needed!) -- Boundary Stone, Shaw’s Tavern, & The Royal and many more bars and restaurants around Truxton Circle and its immediate neighborhoods of Shaw, Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park -- The historic Howard Theater -- 3 dry cleaners -- Liquor store 15 minutes by foot - The exciting emerging hot spot around 9th and Florida Avenue, including: -- Cool shopping (Warby Parker, Frank & Oak, Aesop) -- Bars and restaurants, artisanal coffee, Glen's Market -- The Foundry art gallery -- The Atlantic Plumbing Cinema and Bar -- The well-known 9:30 Club -- and a Whole Foods coming soon Explore the bars and restaurants on 7th St (a grocery store here, also), 9th St, 11th St and all around the Shaw neighborhood, and on into Logan Circle and all of its shopping, food and nightlife on 14th Street. You can walk home in 15-20 minutes or take a cheap Uber ride. To get to these destinations: DC Convention Center - 20 minutes by foot, 6 minutes by taxi Union Station - 25 minutes by foot, 6 minutes by taxi White House - 35 minutes by foot, 8 minutes by taxi The Mall / Smithsonian American Art Museum - 30 minutes by foot, 6 minutes by taxi US Capitol - 40 minutes by foot, 7 minutes by taxi Reagan National Airport: walk to and take metro: 35 minutes, no metro changes; or 20 minutes taxi Georgetown, 36 minutes door to door on the bus, 9 minutes by taxi As we live upstairs, so we are close to hand if you need anything. You may hear our footsteps overhead, or the sound of the pitter-patter of two playful cats (who are not allowed in the downstairs apartment). We are generally quiet and there are no children above you. The cooling and heating are controlled from the main part of the house for the whole property. We are generous with the heat and the A/C to provide comfort for all. Space heaters and fans are in the apartment for your use if you need extra heat or air movement. This is an English basement. There are two windows on the front, and a window in the bedroom. The front door also has a window, as well as a snazzy retractable screen door if you want to keep the front door open to enjoy more light and fresh air. Given that light in lower-level apartments can be limited, we have endeavored to provide a mix of overhead canister lighting, wall sconces, lamps and lots of dimmer switches so you can create a nice lighting environment as needed. The space feels really nice to be in, as you will see! The HVAC is located in a closet in the apartment. Like all HVACs, the running motor makes sound. We mention this for those who are very sensitive to sound.
