Mountain-view Catskills escape
Mountain-view Catskills escape
Description
Up in the sky over the Rondout Reservoir, this peaceful retreat has year-round views, eagles flying by and easy access to hikes, waterfalls and the happening Hudson Valley. The renovated, solar-powered 1950s cabin is just two hours from NYC, but when you climb the driveway and find yourself on top of the world, you are far away. Watch the sun set—from the deck, sun porch, dining room, fire pit, couch. Wander into the forest out back. Serious cooks will enjoy the induction stove. The space You have all to yourself a sweet and efficient little house, a sprawling deck, a couple of acres of lawn and trees and a huge forest behind you. It's remote and solid: The silence and the miles of views are amazing—and in winter the house is warm and snug. You're pretty far from civilization (although great groceries are 20 minutes away in Napanoch and Ellenville.) Walking the roads, you may not see a car for hours. Big bonus: When the local power goes out, which does happen up here, the house doesn't lose it, thanks to the solar panels. Guest access The house has one queen bedroom, bath, shower, well-stocked kitchen and a living room/dining room that when the deck and sun room are too chilly is the heart of the house and stares out at the sky, reservoir and mountains day and night. Other things to note One dog is fine but only if you’re able to keep it off the furniture. Please note the $30 pet fee. If your dog is extra hairy, though, a cash tip for the cleaners is recommended.
