Welcome to the Black Horse Canterbury, in the historic city of Canterbury. Black Horse Canterbury welcomes travellers from across the world to stay with us in the wonderful, ancient walled city of Canterbury, in our small, friendly bed and breakfast, located in a quiet road in the heart of this beautiful city. It is one of the safest cities in the country and was awarded the purple star for the highest level of safety. Check in is from 7PM, early check in is available with prior notice. The space Room Six is on the first floor, with an old-fashioned steep flight of stairs to approach the bedroom on the right, opposite Room Seven. There are two Georgian sash windows overlooking the street, with gauze net curtains and blackout blinds. It is a lovely, double room positioned in the front of the house, and overlooks the very old residential street of Orchard Street, of which this property is one of the terrace of small town cottages, originally built for apple picking farm workers, hence the name Orchard Street The bed has a new memory-foam topped mattress on a sprung base, clean white cotton sheets, four pillows and a 13.5 tog anti-allergy duvet in the winter with a tartan rug of recycled lambswool, and our luxurious Windsor pure white bedspread made from 100% percale cotton and features an intricate quilted pattern that enhances the tactile texture of this soft natural fabric, and a lightweight 10 tog anti-allergy duvet for the summer. The cream walls are hung with antique pictures. The two bedside cabinets have wall reading lights either side of the bed. The ensuite is in a separate room on the right in the bedroom, and has a power shower with instant hot water, a heated towel rail, an LED mirror and free toiletries. The beverage welcome tray comes with assorted teas, freshly ground coffee and a French press. A hair-dryer, a fan and a large, flat screen TV with remote, are provided. The dining room in 12 Orchard Street is the continuation of the original pitch pine wall panelling, and beautiful varnished pine floorboards covered by old patterned rugs, and a fine original fireplace with a brick surround and a pine mantlepiece. The theme of the pictures on the cream-coloured walls is India. The dining furniture is turn of the century carved oak, in keeping with the surrounding Georgian and Victorian building.
