This home has been designated as a National Historic Site & a Kentucky Heritage Home in honor of the work done by Jean Ritchie in the preserving the musical heritage of the region. It offers 6 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, dining room, kitchen, multiple outdoor seating areas & plenty of parking. This home was full of love, laughter, music and family traditions and we hope you discover this for yourself during your visit! And, pets are welcome too! The space This home was built around 1936 and was the home of the Ritchie Family. In each room you will find framed photos and descriptions of the family, places and events associated with the heritage of the house. This is a large home that will sleep up to 11 people. The front porch is a great place for the adults to sit while the kids play in the large yard. Outside is a nature lovers dream, listen to the crickets, catch fire flies and relax under the stars! There is small creek nearby which provides music of it's own. You will feel like you are going back in time to a place when life was simple and family was everything. Plenty of parking and trucks with trailers are welcome. Guest access Guests will have access to all of the rooms of the house excluding the attic and basement. The Brown House, the original family home, adjoining the property is also owned by the Ritchie family and is currently being remodeled with plans of it becoming an additional rental soon. On the back side of the brown house there is a large covered porch that guests are welcome to enjoy. There is also additional parking in this area. Other things to note Airbnb customers agree that they undertake recreational activities in and around the Ritchie Homeplace at their own risk. This property is located in the heart of the mountains so guests need to expect possible visits from wildlife such as insects, snakes, deer, turkeys and even an occasional bear. It is not often that you may see these animals but it is possible. Bears are not aggressive unless provoked and walking in and around the forest at night is not recommended.
