The space The Goldfinch is a 150-year-old, 2,400 square foot farmhouse situated at the end of 2 miles of dirt road. The house sits on 50 privates acres of land that guests are encouraged to explore and enjoy, with a swimming pond out the back door, and is surrounded by miles of trails through fields and woods. Upstairs, the serene master bedroom includes a king sized bed, lofty ceiling, sitting nook, walk-in closet and private dressing room. Across the hall is a large full bathroom and 2 brightly appointed bedrooms, one with a full sized bed, the other with 2 twins. Downstairs you’ll find a dining room, living room, 2nd spacious bathroom with a washer and dryer, and a 4th private bedroom with a twin bed and work desk. The full kitchen invites gathering and all manner of food preparation with a sit-in counter, coffee bar, stovetop, oven, fridge, dishwasher and pantry. The kitchen opens onto a cozy sitting area around a working fireplace. French doors from the kitchen / sitting area open onto the broad back deck, with a grill and dining area. From the deck, steps lead down to an old stone path through a garden to the swimming pond, with a dock, pond-side fire pit and porch swing. Free bicycles are available for exploring the old dirt roads. The classic Vermont village of Strafford was founded in 1791 and is known for its iconic town house and the historically maintained gothic revival home of Senator Justin Morrill, a contemporary of President Lincoln. The town is also home to over 1,000 acres of wildlife area and hosts over 26 miles of hiking trails, including access to the Long Trail, and a loop through a fen that bursts with orchid blossoms every spring. A ten minute drive to the lower village provides access to the town tennis courts, the pocket park with river swimming access, and a general store for groceries and miscellaneous needs. The property is less than 20 minutes from Vermont Law School, and just over 30 minutes from Dartmouth College, King Arthur Flour, or Saskadena Six ski area. Plus it's within an hour and a half of almost every corner of Vermont and most of New Hampshire, from Burlington to Brattleboro to Middlebury to the Northeast Kingdom in VT, and from the White Mountains to the Lakes Region in NH.
