And by locals, we mean bugs. Being in the heart of Florida, the tropics, means that pretty much anywhere there is plant material or trees, which is pretty much everywhere around us, there is a potential to be some creepy crawlies. They are also attracted to food, brought in regularly by pets and can get through the smallest cracks. We do our best with balancing pest treatment and not putting harmful chemicals around by having Terminix do the exterior treatment quarterly and personally dropping a bunch of traps between guests and using some more natural products in areas you might be in contact. All that being said, some of them do still slip past and make their way inside. We considered sealing up every little nook and cranny but were advised against it by a few contractors and an inspector who suggested it would make growth of mold a certainty.
