A stylish, architect-designed Larch Bank Barn tucked into an orchard close to the River Dart, with wonderful views over the meadow. Light-filled and beautifully simple, the open-plan living space brings the outdoors in. The river, is a short stroll away, while the lively market town of Ashburton is also a stroll way, with its Cookery School, Arts Centre, delis, independent shops, pubs and restaurants. The space The Barn Originally part of an 18th-century farmstead, the old bank barn has been sensitively transformed into a light-filled contemporary retreat, combining the character of its historic setting with a warm, natural and understated interior. Over 60 square metres of space are arranged around a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. Large windows and glazed doors bring the outside in and frame the surrounding fields, wildflower meadow and orchard. You can lie in bed and enjoy the epic views of the meadow. The bespoke oak kitchen is well equipped for relaxed meals at home, while comfortable contemporary furniture and solid oak flooring create an inviting space to cook, eat, read or simply sit and enjoy the view. The peaceful king-size bedroom looks across the orchard and meadow through its French doors. The ensuite bathroom has a large rainfall shower, soft towels and quality local toiletries. Natural materials, carefully chosen fabrics and artwork inspired by Dartmoor add to the calm, homely feel of the barn. Your own orchard One of the things that makes Orchard Bank Barn special is the half-acre orchard surrounding it. It is yours to enjoy during your stay, with loungers for lazy afternoons, an outdoor table for breakfast or supper, picnic rugs and cushions, and a fire pit and barbecue for evenings under the stars. Depending on the season, you may enjoy the blossom, wildflowers and apples, while rabbits, deer and birds can often be spotted around the meadow and orchard. It is a lovely place simply to sit, listen and watch the countryside unfold. Exploring The River Dart is just a short walk away, while Ashburton is less than a mile from the barn and easily reached on foot. Ashburton is one of Devon's most characterful small towns, with independent food shops, bakeries, cafés, restaurants, pubs, galleries, antique shops and the Ashburton Arts Centre. Dartmoor is on the doorstep, offering wonderful opportunities for walking, cycling, riding, wild swimming and exploring. If you fancy heading to the coast, the beaches and beautiful towns of South Devon are within easy reach, including Bantham, Blackpool Sands and Thurlestone. Totnes, Dartmouth and Salcombe also make excellent days out. Little touches We want Orchard Bank Barn to feel like a home rather than simply somewhere to stay. On arrival, you'll find a few local treats to enjoy, together with fresh flowers. We provide crisp Egyptian cotton bed linen, wonderfully soft towels and dressing gowns, quality toiletries - its a comfortable stay. There is fast Starlink WiFi, a Smart TV, WiFi speaker and Nest-controlled heating, so you can make yourself completely at home. The barn is designed for couples and is not suitable for children, although we are happy to welcome babies under six months old. We recommend having a car both for getting here and for making the most of Dartmoor and the wider South Devon area. We hope Orchard Bank Barn gives you the same feeling it gives us: a little haven in Devon, surrounded by nature, yet close enough to walk into Ashburton for a good coffee, a wonderful meal or a bottle of wine. Guest access The barn is yours, with parking. The orchard with fire pit and outdoor furniture, (including loungers and two tables chairs) is also your private space and the fabulous views of the meadow and the wildlife passing by. We recommend that you only book if you have a car for transportation . The open farmyard is cobbled and there are uneven steps to the property and in the orchard so the spaces are not suitable for people with mobility issues. The access drive and yard is used by the owners , their guests and delivery vehicles- please park carefully to allow claer access Other things to note Access is down a quite lane off the main road with limited access to the public. There is a fan and doors open each each of the building so breeze can blow through in the summer . Definitely No BQs or lighting of candles due to fire risk .
