Description

The Straw Bale Haven welcomes you! This in-law studio has the amenities that you need for a home base, whether you are visiting for work or play. Come and go as you please with a private entrance. Although the studio is compact, it is also cozy and private. We want you to feel at home. All are welcome here! Update: 04/2026 - The house next door is being renovated and noise may bother some. Please read the entire listing, including house rules, to make this stay pleasant with no surprises. The space Casa Adobo is our house and our community of friends and loved ones. The Straw Bale Haven is the guest studio in Casa Adobo, self-contained with its own keypad entrance and en-suite bathroom. Plenty of natural light warms the room through French doors, while optional snap-on blackout curtains are provided to allow a peaceful night's sleep for late sleepers. Cook at home in the kitchenette, fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and electric induction burner. Electric kettle and French press provided for coffee and tea! Enjoy your own outdoor patio for sunny California breakfasts. There is no air conditioning in the unit, but opening the door at night brings cool breezes. We are committed to hosting safe stays, with attention to cleaning and disinfection. Please note that there is an additional fee of $50 if you leave a big kitchen mess and do not clean and put away dishes at check-out. Other things to note If you have long-term stay dates in mind beyond what is shown available on the calendar, please inquire. I usually open up the calendar 1-2 months in advance. G00glers - please note that the security on your device may prevent you from connecting your work laptop for internet access. I've only had one guest over four years have difficulty, but I can't guarantee that my network is compatible with all devices. We are located on a well-traveled pedestrian and bike boulevard, and, the Caltrain runs in the back. Light sleepers may find themselves disturbed by the train horn. The studio is connected to the house and shares some walls with the laundry and bedroom, so you may hear some life in the other rooms. It is otherwise a peaceful neighborhood. This studio was built using natural plaster & straw bale construction. It is designed to keep cool longer in the daytime and comfortably warm at night thanks to this age-old, environmentally friendly building method. Peer into the insides of the thick earth plaster walls-- that's right, you'll see old fashioned straw bales-- through your charming bedside "truth windows." Our walls were built as a labor of love and community thanks to the help of CASBA, the California Straw Building Association. They'll help make your Straw Bale Haven a snug place to rest your head for the night. A portion of your stay will be donated to CASBA so they can continue their great work. A few house rules and details: -Please note that this a no-smoking, no-vaping property. -There is an additional cleaning fee of $50 if you do not clean and put away dishes at check-out or leave a big kitchen mess. -Laundry access is not available, but there is a laundromat down the street. -Mail cannot be received at this house. Any packages or mail delivered to the mailbox outside may be forwarded to another address, so please use Greenmail or general delivery at the post office.
