Description
Experience a private, quiet corner of the Japanese countryside, convenient to Karuizawa, Sakudaira (shinkansen station). Hosted by a Mexican American couple, our home is open to all. Enjoy spectacular views of Asamayama (Mt. Asama) and breathe in the mountain air. We accommodate remote workers and offer discounts for extended stays. The space We found this home by lucky accident 7 years ago, and it has provided us with many wonderful memories and has become the center of our universe. We hope you will create memories of your own as you discover the peace of Japan’s rural landscape with a clear view of Asamayama. We recently renovated the simple old farmhouse across the road where we live now, convenient to you in case you have questions during your stay, but we will give you space to enjoy your time. Your house, built in 1985 following traditional Japanese techniques, features a traditional tatami Japanese room with tokonoma (sleeps 3), a hardwood floor wood stove room (sleeps 1), a hardwood floor outside the kitchen (sleeps 2) and two upstairs rooms with tatami (sleeps 2 and 3). The last three rooms have air conditioning/heating; in winter the maki stove (wood stove) heats the whole house. We use double futons so even on the wood floors they are comfortable. The kitchen has a number of appliances (rice cooker, 2 burner gas stove, oven, tea kettle, refrigerator/freezer) along with pots, pans, plates and utensils. There is a western style dining table with 6 chairs and two high chairs (additional chairs and table can be brought in if needed). The bathroom has a shower and ofuro tub with a separate toilet (washlet). There is a washer you can use, with space to hang clothes to dry in the upstairs balcony. There is a lovely onsen (Miharashi-no-yu) just 7 minutes away. If you are new to onsen bathing, we are happy to share with you how we made natural mineral water soaking part of our regular self-care. Outside, you can cook barbecue (fuel and equipment provided free of charge), and explore our organic vegetable and flower gardens. We can suggest some nearby parks (one along the Yukawa, another with an elaborate playground in Miyota). Our fenced in backyard provides space for kids and dogs to play accompanied by adults. Omogae is a village of about 200 people. People have farmed this area along the Yukawa for at least the past 500 years, according to local lore. The narrow road leading up to the house served as a spur to the famous Nakasendo road connecting Tokyo to Kyoto for the past 1000 years. Your house has no close neighbors as it is on a hill at the edge of the community. We value our neighbors and the serenity of this place, and we hope that you will show respect by not hosting loud parties, picking up after pets, and being careful not to stray on private property. We hope you enjoy your stay and take advantage not only of the amenities in Karuizawa, but also explore what Miyota has to offer. Our house guide has listings of our favorite spots to explore and eat. We welcome your suggestions too; we are trying our best to make this a place you will want to return to! Guest access Guests have access to the entire house except the small room by the bathroom which we use for household supplies. It is blocked off by a bookcase. Other things to note Omogae is so small it does not have a sign to let you know you are here, but it does show up in online maps. Free public parking is across 156 from the fire tower. We strongly recommend that you do not try to drive up the narrow road to the house as you could damage your vehicle. When you arrive, please call and we can bring you and your belongings up the road to the house. Registration Details Hotels and Inns Business Act | 長野県佐久保健所 | 長野県佐久保健所指令2佐保第11-30号
