We are happy to be able to share this beauty with you although we typically only rent out the home on select weeks during the spring, summer, and fall. We are eco-conscious homeowners. Our commitment to reducing our environmental impact means we take into account the impact of home and landscape design decisions, maintenance, and supplies. Our commitment means: - We create harmonious spaces that support well-being and limit neighborhood disturbance. - Our home is in walking distance to historic Main St and we encourage tenants to walk, not drive into town. - We take our guidance from nature and only plant drought resistant plants and trees that thrive in the local soil. We never water the lawn. We use local mulch to help the soil retain water where needed and keep plants protected over winter. - We collect rainwater in barrels for watering newly planted plants or plants struggling in times of drought. - We limit our use of chemicals for weed or bug control - these are only used when absolutely necessary. We opt for natural bug and pest deflectors like mints and marigolds. - We use trees to shade the home to reduce the need for AC in the summer months. We use window shades to block the hot afternoon sun or let a winter sun warm the home. - This homes' materials like the lath and plaster walls and original or reclaimed wood floors and molding, and hot water radiators were intentionally retained because they perform better than many modern materials in creating a healthy and quiet environment. - We stock coffee, creamer, tea, cooking, and cleaning supplies, that are made by companies who have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability. - You'll make coffee the old-fashioned way - brewed! Because we believe it's the gentlest on the environment. - We don't throw away what guest's leave unless it's perishable. We donate items that aren't useful to the next guest. - We recycle everything we can including: cardboard, paper, plastic, metal, and glass. - We restore and reuse whenever possible - eliminating unnecessary purchases of new items. - We only buy exactly what our guests need for a comfortable stay. - We use LED light bulbs, and we don't leave exterior lights on all night to pollute the night sky. - Our appliances are energy efficient. - We ask that you consider your impact when you stay at our home.
