Description

A beautifully converted and extremely comfortable big yellow American School Bus with amazing outside spaces. Secluded, luxurious and quiet, the Skoolie Stays bus is nestled in a large private field in glorious countryside, alongside the South Downs. Nearby beautiful villages, cosy pubs, and walks, this is the perfect balance of quirky escapism & off-grid living. There's a wood-fired hot-tub and deck, hammocks, an outside firepit and endless peace and quiet in the sights and sounds of nature. The space The Skoolie Stays bus has been carefully designed to balance luxury, freedom and environmental impact. The bus interior has been lovingly hand-built using pine, recycled American oak, and recovered teak. We’ve added our own design features, blending the earthy tones of the engineered oak herringbone flooring with the copper shine of the painstakingly assembled ‘penny-table’ epoxy resin countertop. The outside spaces are wonderful: larhe provare field area, wood-fired hot-tub and deck under a huge oak tree, triple hammock hang-out area, and firepit and oak benches for BBQ and star-gazing evenings. We have worked hard to transform this space in the most sensitive way we can, choosing materials that are environmentally-friendly. It’s fully insulated with sheep’s wool, incorporates water-saving technology and runs off of solar panels. We’ve recycled and repurposed where we can, using parts of the original bus to link to its history and give them new life. A tiny-home it may be, but cramped it is not. American buses come in many different shapes and sizes and we chose this particular bus for conversion because it offered increased height inside and would allow us to maximise living space. The result is spacious accommodation that blends old and new, natural materials and modern technology and the best of American and British. What you get: Master bedroom with a king-sized bed (sleeps 2) 43 square foot Sun Deck – perfect for morning coffees and late nights stargazing. ‘Murphy’ style fold away bunk-beds (sleeps 2 children or adults up to (very) maximum 6ft), cleverly-designed to fold-up during the day. Full kitchen with a double burner gas-stove top, fridge, large sink and plenty of storage and surface space. ‘American diner’ eating area, made from the original recycled bus-seats and a vintage teak school table. Bathroom with fully tiled shower and a top-of-the-range composting toilet (no smells and no wasted water, helping you reduce the impact of your weekend away on the natural environment). Cosy lounge with a clean-burning log stove and a comfy leather sofa. Plenty of USB electrical points – we have 2400W of solar power (plenty to charge your gadgets). Super-cool driver’s cab area with all the original buttons and levers. A cosy rural hideaway for all seasons and all weathers. Guest access You will have the whole bus and field to yourself. Other things to note Skoolie Stays was created following our 12 month, 14,000 mile road trip across America in a similar school bus. We wanted to share our experiences of bus life. A simpler, slower way of living that gave us the space and time to talk, laugh, adventure, sleep and get some distance from the distractions of home. We've written a book about it - you can have a read when you get on board!
