Why is this so much better than booking a local bedroom in a family home? It's the sense of Community and Belonging you will feel. You have every right to use the shared space just like anyone else living in the home. You don't need to feel like you are infringing on family dinner time when you want to prepare your own meal. You can feel comfortable sitting on the sofa and kicking back and watching tv or chatting with other residents. You can connect with locals and other travelers even though you are traveling alone. We’ve taken great effort to create a comfortable, convenient home for you. You are welcome to prepare meals in the shared kitchen and work, relax or watch TV in the the dining/living area. There is seating for outdoor dining and working. RESPECT is a huge theme and focus for us. You will be staying with people from various countries with various cultural backgrounds and habits. We ask that you try to keep this in mind. Please be considerate beyond what you might normally be. You never know if something you are doing may be offensive to someone from a different background. Take personal responsibility to clean after yourself and leave a tidy kitchen for the next guest. Bring your personal items into your room. You absolutely can never park in someone’s reserved spot. VISITORS: This is our Zero Tolerance House Rule. The only people allowed in the home at any time are officially registered guests who have been ID verified. This is for the safety, security and comfort of everyone in the house. You can be assured that your housemate doesn't have a random unknown person in their room and that the house isn't completely overcrowded. If you break this rule Airbnb policy allows for us to cancel your booking without refund. This is not a party house. Your housemates are usually serious young people who often need to work in the morning. That being said....if you are a several month guest and have a family member or friend accompanying you or visiting you for a a few days, talk to us for permission and guidelines. SECURITY CAMERA: According to Airbnb policy, we want to disclose that we have security cameras at the front door and other cameras on other buildings and at the back entrances. They all have sound. They will be turned on during your stay. It is a clearly visible camera outside the home. This is for everyone's comfort and protection. We don't have problems in the house, because we take efforts to keep the house safe for you and your things. KITCHEN USE: Using the kitchen is a privilege that is granted to you, if you use it with respect for the others who share the space. You can prepare simple meals. No frying foods with strong spices or foods that leave a lingering odor--what smells good to you may be offensive to others. You are expected to clean up your mess. We do not have cleaning fairies. You must commit to washing your dishes right after use. This means no leaving dishes to soak because you've burned something. If you violate this rule, you may lose kitchen privileges. Please do not throw food into the kitchen garbage. It attracts pests and creates odors. There are large cans outside the house. If you are throwing food away, please take it outside. LAUNDRY: The shared laundry is in the garage of 25A. Access is on the left side of the house. Your room code will be programmed into the lock. Because it is also for bike storage; there is a camera. Please close the door securely. Expect to pay $3.75 for a wash load and $1.25 for 45 minutes of drying. If you would like an additional room cleaning and linen exchange, we can arrange it for $40. If you would like just a linen exchange, it is $15, otherwise you can wash your sheets as often as you like. CHECKING IN: The house and your bedroom have coded lock. Each guest gets their personal code that works for the front door and their bedroom door. For security, the codes are changed between guests and each guest has a different code. Generally, the code will be your room number plus the last 3 numbers of your telephone number. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: The house is literally a 1 minute walk to a city bus line that runs on Santa Clara Street. BIKES: Absolutely no bikes inside the house. We do allow bike parking for both houses in the garage of 25A. STANDARD OF BEHAVIOR~~Before you book the wrong place, just know that for things to run smoothly in this type of shared home, we need to run a tight ship. We have rules that we will enforce, so don’t be surprised if we call you out on inconsiderate behavior. We expect a certain standard from everyone, though we cannot guarantee that everyone will follow the standard we have set. Our only recourse is to cancel the booking of people who violate the house policies. If you feel someone is being disrespectful, you must let us know immediately. We want the opportunity to talk to the other guest and not find out about offensive behavior after your stay has ended. Guest access You are renting a private room with a private bathroom and you get access to shared space in the home. You can freely use the living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry, backyard etc. We ask that you respect that it is a shared space and try hard to social distance and to disinfect the space that you use after use. It is our hope that you will take steps to create a safer environment for others in the home.
