Escape to a perfectly situated, walkable location with a boaty & beachy flavor!
Just over an hour from two bustling capitals (Washington DC & Richmond), you’ll find a fun(ky) beach escape! Kick back & relax at Boaty McBeach House—a quiet, cozy cottage ideally situated on “The Point.” You’re only a few minutes walk from the beach, sunsets on the dock of the bay & fun waterfront eateries. You get the whole home, a large yard & a central location in our walkable, bikeable, golf-cartable, quiet & quirky town. Note: You can arrive by boat too! The space The home flows nicely and feels airy and spacious for its size. Both the king bedroom and queen bedroom are super comfy. The living room includes a pull out queen sofa if you’d like to squeeze in 2 more, though we think the house is best suited for 4. Beyond the bedrooms, the house includes a large dining table in an open-plan kitchen/dining area, a large sofa in the living room, and a full bathroom. The front porch is covered and perfect for waving to smiling locals or holiday-makers walking, biking, or golf-carting by. The back deck is sunny, and private. The large fenced-in back yard includes grass for lawn games and patio space with a gas grill, fire pit, loungers and umbrella. There is lots of off-street parking. And most of what you’ll need for a fabulous week at the beach is in the shed or the garage. We didn't realize it until we started thinking about it, but we are in one of the best locations in town. If you don't want to drive, you don't have to. One block west brings you to Monroe Bay and one of our favorite waterfront destinations (Ice House), perfect for sunsets. A block north is another waterfront restaurant (Los Hermanos). 3 blocks east puts you right on the beach. And it’s probably our favorite beach, with nice sand at the water's edge and deciduous trees behind you bringing shade on hot summer afternoons. A few blocks north is Colonial Beach's "downtown" with several restaurants and a couple good shops. Yes, the walk to Dockside on the southern end of The Point is a bit further, but if you don't want to walk, we've got bikes in the garage for you. And they have tons of free parking if you'd rather drive your golf cart, or car. Yes, our cleaning fee is kind of high. But, believe it or not, we pay $50 more than we charge. We know that a really clean house matters. While no cleaning gets up every last spot of dust, you'll read it in our reviews — we're using the best team in the area. Note that you can arrive by car or *boat.* There are two marina options within a very short walk (1–1.5 blocks) of the house. Shallow draft required, but boats over 40' come and go. Then you can do day trips to lots of amazing destinations nearby, like Sharks Tooth Island. If you have questions, concerns, etc. in advance, or while you're there... any time, just reach out and we'll be more than happy to help. Guest access Guests have access to the whole home and yard. Entry is through the *side* door along the large driveway, using a private 4-digit key code provided before check in. Other things to note Just a reminder that while the house will sleep 6, we find it accommodates 4 more naturally. 6 can sleep well as the queen pull out sofa is good quality (for a pull-out), but you then have to put away the bed/bedding to enjoy the living room each morning. If that doesn't bother you, that's great! The other consideration is that there is only one bathroom. So, if you have 3 teens that spend hours prepping each morning, you may find yourself cross-legged more often than you'd like! That said, we've hosted groups of 6, and everyone has had a great time. As long as you know what you're in for, all things can be managed. The King room is substantially larger than the Queen room. Both beds are very comfortable. Some like the queen room better as it's cute and cozy, and brighter in the mornings. There are only 2 smart TVs. One in the living room, and one in the King room. Neither has cable/satellite. Both require streaming services. Note: “Boaty McBeach House” is officially registered and licensed as a short-term rental business with the town of Colonial Beach. We are in full tax and safety compliance, so you don’t have to worry about an unexpected closure by the city before your arrival, or during your stay.
